i dont understand this with the numbers and stuff, could some one explain this to me please?

This might help if that doesn't make sense to you.

Code:
A ---5---
E ---5---
C ---6---
G ---7---

as compared to

A ---0---
E ---2---
C ---2---
G ---2---

(low D)

I have noticed some people play 2220 and other 2225, what's the difference?

to make a D chord, it should consist of the notes: D, F#, and A.

when it is played 2220, the note played on the 1st string is A.

when it is played 2225, the note played on the 1st string is D.

the other three strings are still playing A, D, and F#. so whether you add a D or another A to the high note in that chord, it is still a D chord.

I have noticed some people play 2220 and other 2225, what's the difference?

Mainly just "sound". Both versions play all three notes that are in a D major chord (D, F#, and A) on three of the uke strings. The difference is how you spend your other string.

With 2225, you're adding an extra D note that's an octave higher than the root. In order from closest-to-your-head (fourth string) to closest-to-your-feet (first string), the notes are: A, D, F#, and then the high D.

With 2220, the first string is left open, which means you "double" the A note. The notes are: A, D, F#, and then another A at the same pitch as the other one.

Hope that helps,

JJ

Edited to add: Oops. NukeDoc beat me to it. Oh well.
