I've read threads about satin finishes being worked on to look glossy, but what if the finish is in between? My Koa Pili Koko uke has an open pore nitrocellulose lacquer finish and it looks great but I think it would look better with a glossier finish. I don't know a lot about finishes so your replies would be helpful.

I think really glossy open pored finishes look terrible unless they're French polish.

That uke is likely to have very little finish on it, and there's a good chance that if you try to buff it to gloss, you'll rub through to bare wood.

:( Thank you.

My KPK had a black scuff mark on it and after rubbing-it-out with toothpaste, I had a shiny spot.
...so yes, it can be polished.
