to make a functional one is not out of the question but I have so many projects going right now mostly mechanical hot rod projects but before I make a functional tiny uke I am going to carve a realistic mermaid figurehead coming out of a deck hatch on the bow of my 13" boat .. if I can do that without it looking like a zombie fish then THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING

Keef

Well i got the tunner knobs on now i have to find a chain and make a box http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad54/Kempocat/6c43f1e7.jpg

In this video Taimane Gardner depicts her self as a Marionette I may as well actualy make a marionette based on Taimane and her video. At least the uke is finished :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qstfC9AwjFM&sns=em

Keef
12-01-2011, 09:15 AM
I may make a completely new tiny uke ... as I noticed that its not the same shape as the one in the video

Keef

I suspect the newbies are looking at your project and wondering if it will be easier or more difficult to barre frets...

Keef
12-01-2011, 02:04 PM
LOL I can hide the whole uke behind my index finger:)

the question for me is how do you make micro frets nut and saddle? I will attempt to be more detailed with the next one

Tudorp
12-01-2011, 02:14 PM
You can make frets out of .020 steel wire. But and saddle can be made from bone easy enough.. ;)

Maybe a pin, cut and sanded?

I've got you beat, Keef. I carved a completely playable ukulele out of an aspirin. I used gnat hairs as strings. Unfortunately, I can't post any pics. I played it so much it melted.

I'm working on one with carbon nano tubes for strings. Unfortunately it's invisible to the naked eye.

Your way ahead of me. This is as small as I had gotten so far..

Shown next to a Ohana Soprano for scale..

Did you use a wound gnat hair for the G, or unwound?

THANK YOU wow I have my work cutout for me big time with this one :)

I been pondering making a playable mini like my Aphid and Ladybug in the cutaway style myself. I might have to work on that, because that would be cool. Will have to come up with another small bug name for it, but, I guess I'll see how a build works out before I blow brain cells on thinking up a name for it.. lol

Keef

to me it would be kinda dumb to make one as small as the one I just made and trying to make it playable. the only reason I say this is your one finger tip could cover all the frets so whats the point?however I would like to make it small and as realistic as possible

Trinimon
12-02-2011, 02:48 PM
Haha, that would make barre chords SOOOO much easier! It's all you'd be able to play! lol

Actually, only the C string was a full gnat hair. For the remaining thinner strings, I had to split hairs.

I can contest to that. Mine is 10" long, with a 6.5" scale, and it is playable, but just right on the threshold of playable/not playable. Anything smaller would be pretty much not at all. I think KoAloha's first uke was a little smaller than mine, and it was considered playable, so, who know.. ?
