Right so I have a banjolele and I want to learn a Formby song, how do I
tune it to Formby playing (I think its in "G", but how do you do that?)?

What's the song?

A Formby song in G would usually be played with the uke tuned to A D F# B (ie up one tone from C tuning) using shapes from what would be the key of F on a C tuned Uke.

Does that make sense?

To be honest, not really

I just leave mine in GCEA, as I play in a uke group & it matches theirs and you can also play Formby on GCEA. He had about 4 ukes in all different tunings & just picked up the one that he preferred for each individual song, I think.

Probably one of the easiest Formby solo to learn straight up is called the 'practise piece'

Check this one out at normal speed

THen check it out when he plays it slow (in GCEA) a totally different set of chords from the 'fast' one

Good Luck!! I can do the split stroke just now & a bit of the Triple & Fan - just have to work out how to do them all at once!!:o
