HMS is running a one day sale on tenor golds: http://www.theukulelesite.com/accessories/koolau-gold-strings-tenor-all-nylon-set. I ordered a few sets to try, $3.99 a set with free shipping works for me. Hope this helps.

My question, what are the golds diameter and tension wise compared to worth browns?

There have been mixed reviews for the Ko'olau Golds (plain). I found them to be a little softer, volume wise. I prefer the newer strings like the Alohi sets. These are nylons which will be thicker than your fluorocarbon strings. Tensionwise, I couldn't tell you. For $3.99 a set, that's a great price.

G - .032 Plain Nylon
C - .041 Plain Nylon
E - .035 Plain Nylon
A - .029 Plain Nylon

I'm a bit with Danny...not a real fan of those strings for the same reason...they're quiet, just not as dynamic as some other brands. But for that price it's maybe worth having a few sets

Thanks for the answers. I am going through the paces trying to get a listen to all of the major brands. Right now I am real happy with the worth browns on my solids. I want to get more educated on the characteristics of a number of strings so I better know starting points on ukes.
