I didn't want to put this in uke talk, so I narrowed it down to general discussion and here. I figured there would be more people interested in building things with wood hanging out here.

My husband claims not to have any skill with making things. His big brother was the carpenter, and Anders is handy, but he didn't hone that skill all his life like his brother did.

A few years ago, he got into pipe collecting, and now decided to have a go at shaping a block of wood into something himself. His first attempt here is with a kit, where it's already smokable. So he sat down at the workbench armed with sandpaper and a handsaw, and made this..









He wanted something with nice thick walls, so that's a deliberate choice. As for the grain in the wood, you got what you got. There are three little birdseyes though.

If anyone here is interested in things being successfully made by people who don't usually make things, more pics and descriptions of what he did are available here and here.

He says he can't build things, but I think we see proof right here that he can!
