thanks Eugene in Taimane Gardners video midnight marionett http://youtu.be/qstfC9AwjFM she depicts her self as a marionette my ultimate goal is to actually make a marionette based on this video I figured I would start with the uke :)

I'll take a dozen for my Christmas tree thank you.
I made one about 1/3rd this size in about a day but this one has me on the very edge of my abilitys and if i dont screw it up may be my finest work to date I really dont think i could make 12 of these even if I had all year to do it ..... :)
please dont ask me to make it fully functional as that would be over my head for sure :)
people who can make functioning string instuments have my greatest respect

Keef

Keef

I have no dreams of making this functional but I might try micro grinding the frets to make them look better ...... OoOoH I have so much more work to do:eek:

I'm waiting to see the case. Or you could always use a Bull Durham bag (or am I showing my age again?)

Keef
12-06-2011, 02:19 PM
yes it will have a case and a strap and amp jack and 90 deg non functional tuners nut and saddle
here is a picture after grinding on the frets and cleaning up the binding ragged edge
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad54/Kempocat/003-1.jpg
I know it dosent look any better but it makes me feel like I tried

I am currently at a loss as to how I am to make a miniature 8 string open gear tuner like this http://www.ukes.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/1200x1200/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/e/i/eighttuner.jpg

Keef
12-08-2011, 01:24 PM
well here is an attempt to start to simulate 4 tiny open gears for the tuners I am hoping to build up the glue on the ends to form a small globe that I can shape into
knobs I know it dosent look like much now but Im trying :) http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad54/Kempocat/001-1.jpg

Keef
12-09-2011, 12:33 PM
still experimenting with the tuners but this is the general direction I'm headed http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad54/Kempocat/001-2.jpg

I also have installed the nut and saddle doo dads :) http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad54/Kempocat/002-1.jpg

Wow Keef ...awesome dude..what did you make the tuners from.. threads for strings?

Keef
12-12-2011, 03:10 AM
Yes the string are threads the tuners are made from brass nails to simulate a worm gear and a spur gear the knobs are blobs of glue :) I am proud of how it came out now if the paint on the stand would dry i could display it properly :)

Keef

Thank you I asked because the first part was about making a uke and the second part is about making a wooden marionette but its still uke related because it will be my best effort to make it look like Taimane ... This makes me a little uneasy because I want it to be flattering not insulting but I have never carved the human body before ... Wish me luck :)

.
the one great thing about making 3d art is you if you really give it all you have and you finish. it is forever then you can relax and bask in your accomplishment or until the cat knocks it on the floor ;)
