Hi,
I want to get a tenor uke but don't know what to get. I'd like it to be solid koa and with geared tuners. I've played the kanile'a k1 tenor and really liked it. The only problem with it was it's price; I can't but anything over $550. What should I get?

oops . not koa
ps, Koa is a nice wood, but there are plenty others, the builder means a lot. kind of like nature or nurture
pps, if you're patient you can probably get a used Koa tenor here on UU

or this if you're in a hurry

Buy second hand..that way you get a premimum uke for your budget range.. keep a daily search in our UU marketplace and Flea music Marketplace good luck...and jump when you first see
it if a good one comes along...good ones usually don't last long...Good Luck...
be patient and you will be rewarded...you always pay more when you want something right away...

For your price range, I'd focus mainly on just a great sounding uke rather than solid koa. Solid koa is great, but you often do pay a premium for it even if it's on a sub par uke. There are a lot of great ukes out there made of a a lot of different woods that sound amazing in your price range. I just picked up a spruce top Pono for around your price range that's really a killer uke. If you were talking over 1K for a uke then yes, you can start to get picky about woods and still get the best uke for your money, but at $550, you may have to make some sacrifices.
