Wow! This looks fantastic - but I can't justify a month's pay, PLUS transportation costs for a 5-day retreat.

Excuse me - double that, because my wife would be coming with me.

I guess it is time to start buying lottery tickets.

Registration is already sent. This was a great gathering last year and started looking forward to the 2012 edition while driving out of the parking lot last year.

Same reaction I have every year when this is announced, sadly. Ah well. Maybe another year.

I might consider it, if it was drivable... But the trans-continental flights - on a carrier that won't shoe horn me into seats designed for Twiggy - aren't inconsequential. They've been running $5-800 round trip each over the past year. Even on Southwest, jammed in for 10+ hours with two stops, is around $300 each way.

Maybe I can get to the NY Uke Festival this year, and take the $100 round trip Amtrak ride...?

That's not exactly true! If your wife were to join you as a "companion" (and your registration was postmarked by Dec 16) the registration fee for her would only be $235, and for that she would be able to join in all of the special, catered events we have planned plus a few of the workshops (http://www.ukuleleretreat.com/workshops), including Mike DaSilva's very, very, beginning class just for companions. And, you could join her in the afternoon for the free swing dance lessons!

PLUS, we've just renegotiated the housing options with Asilomar and it will be even less expensive than it was last year for couples (married or not.) (You're the first to know, I haven't even posted that on the website, yet!)

BTW Asilomar is right next door to Pebble Beach--same beach, same sunset, much more charisma, fewer golf balls--but it's a fraction of the cost to stay at Asilomar AND we have ukuleles!

Hope you'll reconsider!

I put this on my events page

Wish I could go but Ukulele World Congress is the next weekend

Ok, Kurt. We have one just for you:

Camp Oo Koo Lay Lay (http://campookoolaylay.wordpress.com/home/) at the Lair of the Golden Bear in Pine Crest, California, August 18 - 24, 2012. Less than $800 for the whole week....including meals, lodging, ukulele instruction, and just about everything else you'd want in a summer camp!

That's about as low as we can go........hope you can make it.....

OK. If you haven't checked out the website (http://www.ukuleleretreat.com/) lately you should take another peek.

We've added a few more instructors (http://www.ukuleleretreat.com/instructors) to the line-up and have fleshed out the workshop (http://www.ukuleleretreat.com/workshops) offerings.

Hope you can make it!

The final workshop schedule is now online (http://westcoastukuleleretreat.wordpress.com/workshop-schedule/)...there are going to be some tough decisions.

We also have a new online workshop registration process. Which indicates that a couple of the workshops may fill fairly quickly. So, if you're thinking about coming, you should probably get your registration in to us as soon as possible.

There's still room at Asilomar if you haven't yet registered for the West Coast Ukulele Retreat, but some of the workshops (Joel Eckhaus' chord melody workshops, in particular) are getting close to capacity. (We limit the number of participants in each one to enhance the experience for everyone.) So, if you're still on the fence........now would be a good time to make the move.....

OK! We've filled all of our reserved rooms at Asilomar. But that doesn't mean you can't still join us! Aslimoar does still have historic rooms available, but they are releasing them to the general public. So, if you're still thinking about joining us, now would be the time to send in your registration. And many thanks to the folks who've already signed up for the West Coast Ukulele Retreat (http://www.ukuleleretreat.com)this year.

This is shaping up to be a great bunch of people. Lot's of folks who signed up last year are returning, plus we have some new ones. We're keeping the workshop size small (less than 20 people per) to make sure it's a good experience for students AND instructors, but because we have so many workshops going on at any one time, we still have room in all of them!

If you haven't already registered, the only limiting factor may be getting one of the historic rooms at Asilomar. As of this morning, there are still rooms available, but that could change at any moment.

If you're still in doubt, just ask anyone who attended last year.

Hope you can join us!

A few new developments: Nancy Piver will be leading a jam (or two) at the retreat with songs from her ukulele songbook, "Flower Power." (You can read a full review of Nancy's book at: http://kani-ka-pila.com/wordpress/catalogue/song-books/reviews/flower-power-r-i-p-davey-jones (Plus there are some great videos that will take some of you back......way back......)

And, it's confirmed. We will have afternoon tea (or coffee) and bikkies (cookies) in the lovely Scripps Meeting room........

All I can say is OMG! What an incredible weekend! Photos are being posted to the retreat's Facebook Page and we'll have the video up on the website (www.ukuleleretreat.com) soon. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make this the very, very, best ever. New techniques and skills were learned, new songs were sung, best friends were made, the other-wise somber dining hall at Asilomar was flash-mobbed with great success, and we laughed 'til we cried. If you couldn't make it, I am so sorry. Hope you can join us next year!

OK. Here's the promised video of all the ukulele shenanigans, produced by the one and only Jim D'Ville...the only thing missing is his waltz acsross the floor with Joel Eckhaus (I wonder why?) (Any of you who have taken Jim's Play By Ear workshops will recognize the signature beret in the photo he can't escape, below.)
