Hi all!

I'm new here and play ukulele only for few days (having more than 15 years of practice on classical guitar and about 1 year on renaissance lute).
So it was not very hard to start to play something. But I'm not sure that I do everything in right way.

Here are some videos:

I need any advices and critique from advanced players if possible.

Thanks!

Aloha, E Komo Mai ilar13!

Great job! Your classical guitar background is a great asset when crossing over to playing the uke and it shows in your video. BRAVO! There are many UU Members here that have classical guitar backgrounds and play the uke very well. Keep the videos coming, I enjoyed them very much! Hope to see you around the various Forums!

Wow.. Your playing is beautiful! I am no advanced player, so no critique. It sounded wonderful to me!

Very nice, Eugene.

As others have said, the classical guitar background is obvious.'

I was also impressed by the Lute pieces - the richness of the instrument, and the quality of the playing make a great combination.

One minor suggestion - Smile! If you're enjoying yourself, please show it! I know you were concentrating, but even so, give a grin at the end. You've done very well - now bask in it!

Eugene you play beautifully, I can see you being a real asset to the UU, your videos would be great for beginners and advanced players alike. If your aiming at the beginner I would suggest a closer camera shoot on your fretting hand. Well done dude, looking forward to seeing more of your arrangements.

'Beginners Video' - hah, that's funny!:D

I'd like to know how you manage to play so... 'together'. When I play, even if I don't make any mistakes it's still a bit like Painting by Numbers. Most things are a compromise between what I want to play and what I can play. My aim is to be able to play with greater 'freedom'. Hope this makes sense.

But I'm realy in the beginning with uke.
What I can say on your question... Practice! I have many years of correct and systematically practice (and perfomance practice as well) on classical guitar and it helps me to play on uke. Maybe you have to find good teacher.

Anyway take the most simple tune and try to play it as perfect as you can. Work on it hard to make it sounds "together". Only after that take another tune. Simple tune again. You have to work and play on great number of simple pieces. And every note in every piece must sing sweet and colourfull.
This is the best way to train your sense of melody, hearing of the strings ans free-relaxing feelings in you fingers. When you get it try to take on tune which is a little harder and so on.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot garyj!

So I have one new tune to share.
It's played on self-made ukulele in AEae tuning. Firstly it was constructed for mandolin-tuning GDae but for this tune I use crossing-tuning.
Welcome to 13-th century :)

Hi all! After long break I'm back.
With new "axe". I've built renaissance guitar for myself. And you know, this guitar is looking very similar to tenor uke. The tuning is GCea (low g) but with double strings.
And here is little impromptu on this guitar

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fZMSsZobIU

Ok here I'm trying to touch only single strings in pairs but here is little video where I play loud and use double courses:
