I adore this version of Poisoning Pigeons by sweetafton23:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LT8UwCoqoVI

And I would love to be able to play it on the uke if anyone could help me! The only version I found online sounded KIND OF ok but was missing a lot of the chords she uses that make it sound.. better.

Thank you!!

I agree!

I would really like to find some tabs to this song too! Such a beautiful rollercoaster of pure emotion! :)

I worked it out a while ago from a chord set I found online vs. what the piano actually does on the record.

I can post it, but you'll have to give me time to sit down and tab out how I actually play it. It looks complicated, but it isn't.

Gotta love Tom Lehrer!

I grew up on Lehrer Drive in San Diego. I didn't appreciate the significance until much later. Doubt if it were named for him, but I would have insisted otherwise!

Masochism Tango is another Tom Lehrer song I'd like to play. Of course, I'd have to practice it a lot in order to get through it without cracking up.

I love this song. Thank you for introducing it to me. I figured out the tabs, then Googled it out of curiosity. This version was a bit better than the one I came up with, and hopefully not the one you found (I don't think it is:)

It's not the same as the video, but I still think it's very good.

Thanks, luna, for the link to the Gunther Anderson site - lots of great Tom Lehrer chords there. Unfortunately, I didn't find the layout of his chords to be very pleasing to play along with, so I took his chords for a few of my favorite Tom Lehrer songs and put them overtop the lyrics.

I find this way to be easier to read than having all the chords clumped together underneath each verse.

Oh, and a dash (-) means to play the previous chord for an additional measure.

Poisoning Pigeons in the Park

C A7 D7 G7
Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here
C A7 D7 G7
Life is skittles and life is beer
Dm7 G7 C G7
I think the loveliest time of the year
C A7 D7 G7
Is the spring, I do, don't you, of course you do
Dm G7 C -
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me
D7 - G G7
And makes every Sunday a treat for me

C Cmaj7 C6 C
All the world seems in tune on a spring afternoon
C - G7 -
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park
Dm - F -
Every Sunday you'll see my sweetheart and me
G7 - C -
As we poison the pigeons in the park

Fm - Am -
When they see us coming, the birdies all try and hide
D7 - G7 -
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide

C Cmaj7
The sun's shining bright
C6 C
Everything seems all right
D7 G7 C Am
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park
F G C Am F G - -
La la, dum de da da da doo deedeedee

G7 - Cmaj7 C6
We've gained notoriety and caused much anxiety
G7 - Cmaj7 C6
In the Audubon Society with our games
A7 - Dmaj7 D6
They call it impiety and lack of propriety
A7 - - D
And quite a variety of unpleasant names
D7 - G -
But it's not against any religion
D7 - G7 -
To want to dispose of a pigeon

C Cmaj7 C6 C
So if Sunday you're free, why don't you come with me
C - G7 -
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park
Dm - F -
And maybe we'll do in a squirrel or two
G7 - C -
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park

Fm - Am -
We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment
D7 - G7 -
Except for the few we take home to experiment

C Cmaj7 C6 C
My pulse will be quickenin' with each drop of strych-a-nin'
D7 G7
We feed to a pigeon
D7 G7
It just takes a smidgen
D7 G7 C -
To poison a pigeon in the park

Fight Fiercely, Harvard!

G - C -
Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight
A7 D7 G D7
Demonstrate to them our skill
G - C E7
Albeit they possess the might
A7 - D7 -
Nonetheless we have the will
B7 - Em -
How we shall celebrate our victory
A7 - D7 -
We shall invite the whole team up for tea, how jolly
G C E7 -
Hurl that spheroid down the field
A7 D7 G -
And fight, fight, fight

... / A7 D7 G E7 / / A7 D GD7 G /
Fight fiercely, Harvard, Fight, fight, fight
Impress them with our prowess, do
Oh, fellows, do not let the Crimson down
Be of stout heart and true
Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard's glorious name
Won't it be peachy if we win the game, oh, goody
Let's try not to injure them
But fight, fight, fight - Let's not be rough, though
Fight, fight, fight - And do fight fiercely
Fight, fight, fight

The Hunting Song

[Capo 5]

C - G7 -
I always will remember, 'twas a year ago November
C A7 D7 G7
I went out to hunt some deer, on a mornin' bright and clear
C C7 F Fm
I went and shot the maximum the game laws would allow
C G7 C G7
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow

Em - B7 -
I was in no mood to trifle, I took down my trusty rifle
Em - B7 -
And went out to stalk my prey, what a haul I made that day
Em - B7 -
I tied them to my fender, and I drove them home somehow
Em - G7 -
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow

Em - B7 -
The law was very firm, it took away my permit
Em - B7 -
The worst punishment I ever endured
Em - B7 -
It turned out there was a reason, cows were out of season
Em - G7 -
And one of the hunters wasn't insured

... / C C7 F Fm / C G7 C Fm C - /
People ask me how I do it, and I say, "There's nothin' to it
You just stand there lookin' cute, and when something moves, you shoot"
And there's ten stuffed heads in my trophy room right now
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a pure-bred Guernsey cow

A7 D7 G D7
And we're still wondering how

G -

C G
Or maybe it was Sue
D7 G
Or Millie or Billie or Gillie or Willie
A7 D7
It doesn't matter who
G -
It might have been at the club
B7 Em
Or at the pub, or in the loo
G Em
And if you will be my friend
A7 - Cmaj7 -
Then I might...(Mind you, I said "might")...
D7 G
Give it to you

Any other Tom Lehrer tabs/chords are still welcome.
