Sunset Music in San Francisco?

Aloha all, just curious if anyone has anything to say about this shop. Apparently they're the lone Kiwaya dealer in SF. I'll be up there this weekend with a fellow ukulelist, and I was wondering if it's worth making a special trip to check out?

We'll be staying right near Aloha Warehouse and will definitely be stopping in there as well. But, no Kiwayas... and I've sworn to myself that the only other ukulele allowed into my collection is a mahogany Kiwaya

Er, not that this is a buying trip in any way. Really.

I stopped into Sunset Music shortly after I bought my first ukulele (from El Cerrito Music Works, which is also listed as a Kiwaya dealer) just to see what they had. I remember it as a small place that had a handful of ukuleles. It's a general music shop that sells a little of everything, and the people in the shop seemed really nice. I didn't get the sense, though, that they were ukulele specialists. If you have time to travel to the East Bay (it's a bout a 30 minute drive over the Bay Bridge or a 30 minute ride on BART), check out Music Works, too. The owner is an ukulele player, and Music Works recently became a Kamaka dealer.

Aloha Warehouse is a fun place that also recently became a Kamaka dealer. Although it doesn't have Kiwayas, it has a nice selection of Kamaka, Kanile'a, Keli'i and Kala and Makei ukuleles. The owner, Edgar, is a UU member.

If you and your fellow ukulelist are looking for places to play your ukuleles with others while you're here, the San Francisco Ukulele Rebellion Meetup Group is planning to meet on Monday, December 26 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Oakside Cafe (Broderick & Oak Streets). (I'm going to try to attend, although I have a brunch on the peninsula that morning and won't be back before 2:00.) Some of us are going to meet on Saturday December 24 for caroling at a small park at the intersection of Castro, Market and 17th Streets at 2:00 p.m.

I know that park you're talking about - and this sounds like so much fun! Will definitely plan on joining you on the 24th. Monday we're flying back but not until late evening, so, maybe. And thank you for all the info - a trip to the East Bay is a possibility but if it happens it will likely be Christmas day and everything will be closed.

Hey thanks! And you know, one of these days I'll realize that Yelp is good for something other than restaurants. I never think to look for reviews of music shops there.
