You can play any style of music on any instrument. Archtop guitars became popular in early jazz because they projected well in ensembles and the treble-focused tone tended to cut through and make it heard in the mix. As time went on, archtop guitars became thought of as jazz guitars, because so much of the traditional jazz sound was built around them. But a 1940 D'Angelico has the same notes on it as a '57 Les Paul or Segovia's classical, so music is music. Play the instrument you like and break new ground if you have to!
