help with tab

Hi all,
Can one of you patient people explain to me what the forward slash between fret numbers means on a tab please?

PS Is there a book or something that I can buy that explains all this. I have the Dummies book but that has musical notes instead of fret numbers on its tabs.

OK I found it in the section that shows how to read tabs dorrr sorry

Thank you, I'm beginning to get the hang of it. It's fantastic to actually hear my self getting a famous tune out of my uke. When I first picked up the instrument I knew nothing at all and now I am actually playing it WOW I'm hooked
