Time count for strumming pattern

Hi all
I am trying to learn a new strumming pattern could somebody please tell me if I am using the correct count.

DDUUDUUDUUDU
123&4&123&4&.
Pattern is from one of Aldrines old lesson of somewhere over the rainbow.

If you're playing straight, all the "U"s are &s, so it would be 1 2& &4& &2& &4& (I think. I'm tired at the moment. *grin*)
If you put spaces when you write it out, it should help with figgering what's where.

I thought all the ups were ands but it did not look right when I wrote it down.
