I have been playing uke for a few months now. Me and my roommate wanna start a band, I play uke while he plays guitar. His guitar has a pickup on it, and my uke does not. I was wondering if its worth getting a permanent one or not. He has a cable that plugs right into the computer as a USB, so it would make recording so much easier. I have a Lanikai uke, its pretty basic. I am just wondering how much it would cost to get a permanent pickup installed, or if I should get one that sticks on the outside, or maybe if I should just sell my uke and buy one with a pickup already installed? Any suggestions??

Well, Ukes with pickups installed are getting cheaper and cheaper.

That being said, Pickups aren't that expensive and there's a ton of youtube videos showing you how to install them.

The Mi-Si acoustic trio seems to be the flavor of the week.

Fishman is an established name in pickups as well as Shadow and LR Baggs

The ones that stick on the outside are okay. Certainly they are convenient.
