I'm going to be using tru-oil on my next couple of builds.
Should I be bringing the tru-oil up the side of the fretboard, stopping at the top, or should the sides of the fretboard get the same finish as the top of the fretboard?

I tested this for my past few builds with tru-oil. It is better to finish the sides of the fretboard as well, like what Chuck said.
If not, after you remove the masking tape, you will get a line there and it is very uncomfortable....

I am just now in the process of building my first uke but I have constructed and finished about 20 guitar necks (maple and rosewood FB's) and I always bring the neck finish (nitro) up the sides of the fret board. I have not used tru-oil but several builders I am in contact with use it exclusively with fantastic results.
It is definitely a personal preference, I like the way it feels.
