After eight years, Ed's uke is ready for a little tune up.
This week I will be doing a little repair work on his uke. Here are a few pictures of the uke and if you want to see more and follow the repairs, you can see them on my Ukulele blog (http://www.devineguitars.com/guitar-ukulele-blog/).

Very cool! Love the battle scars. So do you give him a loaner while his uke is in the shop? :D

Ha, Nope. No loaner. But I am suposed to have it back to him before his solo tour in April.

So I'm thinking this uke was no wall-hanger collector piece then. :D

Since your the builder I imagine there is a feeling of satisfaction to see how worn it is. He has obviously been playing the heck out of it. too cool, thanks for sharing

Its got to be exciting to fix up a player uke that performs in front of thousands. I definitely will follow your work here.

How much restoration are you going to do?

I assume the sticker is staying. So will you refinish the entire top around that?

I wonder how much this beauty would sell if it ever comes for sale?

What are the specs on his uke Eric?

thanks for the photos!

The restoration will consist of removing the bridge, doing a little work to the bridge, repairing a couple small cracks in the top and that's about it. He wants the finish left as is. Its starting to resemble Willie Nelson's old guitar.

I doubt he would ever sell this one as it was a gift from his friend and band mate Mike McCready.

Specs... Quilted maple back and sides, cedar top, kasha bracing, koa binding and a big "J" sticker on the back... still not sure what that represents.

I know it's Eddie Vedder, but it's still quite jarring to see a sticker on such a beautiful handcrafted instrument.

This is how I feel! I've wanted one of his ukes for so long....yet I've never even seen one in person.

I know it's Eddie Vedder, but it's still quite jarring to see a sticker on such a beautiful handcrafted instrument.

Eddie also wrote the word "CLARENCE" with a black Sharpie on his Mya-Moe ukulele as a tribute to Clarence Clemons, who had died shortly before Eddie performed with his Mya-Moe on Letterman. But he's Eddie Vedder, and he can probably afford as many Mya-Moes and DeVines as he wants, and he's probably spent lots more on guitars, so I figure that his alterations on his DeVine and Mya-Moe ukuleles might be a little like my writing on a Makala in terms of how long we'd both have to save to replace it with a clean one.

The ... and a big "J" sticker on the back... still not sure what that represents.

I am guessing it refers to Michael Jordan, as I remember I have read before that Eddie Vedder is a big fan. He has used the number 23 somehwere on the songbook if I am not mistaken.

Here's another theory on what the J stands for (Jerome).

"On Pearl Jam records, Vedder uses the pseudonym "Jerome Turner" for his non-musical (usually design and artwork) contributions. He has also at times used the pseudonym of "Wes C. Addle" ("West Seattle")."- Wikipedia.
