thank you but what is the strum pattern

I'm a noob also, just do what I do: sing the song and the strum is obvious (I use a D/U/D/U). This isn't a song where you should overthink things... ;)

i just got it LOL so yeah thank you and i have no music exp. so i switch chords every d.u.d.u?

No no no, follow the lyrics and chords as chindog shows. The pasted in text has shifted over the chord changes a bit.
First line is all C chord (D/U D/U etcetera)
2nd line: At "Short" it's a C. At "Stout" change to G.
3rd line: "Here" is D7. "Handle" is a G.

Follow that pattern. At least that's how *I* do it.

If you are a newbie, don't get too hung up on "I must follow a chord pattern" just concentrate on a steady rhythm and keeping time, then explore your own strumming. Trust me.
