Humidity ? Please help me !

Hello everybody,

I have a problem and hope that there is somebody who can help me...
2 months ago I started from Germany to Guatemala, for sure with my Pono Koa Ukulele, and everything was fine, since the rainseason started ( and I think that's the reason ), and now everytime when I'm playing the top ( right to the soundhole ) is creaking and it's really not fun to play with this creak, and also not possible to play loud. Is there anybody who knows what I can do in this case i'm feeling helpless right now. Would be nice to get answers. Thanx a lot !

my guess would be that the wood is damaged.

I'd guess that with the dramatic increase in humidity,your uke swelled up inside,specifically the unvarnished struts inside are probably swollen and "creaking".Try putting it in a less humid atmosphere for awhile,like an air conditioned room or a room with a woodfire burning,see if that helps.

Maybe toss one of those little dehumidifier packets into the soundhole and seal it up in its case between uses.
