Question about strings

So I replaced the cheap stock strings that came with my ukulele with some Martin strings, but I noticed an unexpected side effect.

Whenever i lift my fingers off the fret to change chords there is an additional ringing from the strings that I just let go of.

Is this normal? I don't remember hearing this as much until I changed strings,

This is probably a good thing. The new strings are more responsive. As you progress in learning technique you'll be able to incorporate this kind of thing into the dynamics of your playing.

Yep, those Martins do chime. Check your technique though and try to lift fingers off perpendicular to the neck. If you drag your fingers off the strings at an angle you can tend to effectively give them a small pluck on changing chords.

Many players use this technique to create sounds, and it's essential for hammer ons and pull offs but you also want to learn how to change cleanly too.
