No, wierd is expecting it to answer when you call it...

Actually, I think naming inanimate objects is a little strange but I have some good friends who do that and so far they haven't become serial killers or anything so I guess it's a benign affliction... :)

I try not to anthropomorphize inanimate objects. I hear they don't like it. :)

I heard the same, but sometimes I do it just to see their reaction.

I name all my ukes. like my dog, they bring me joy and are part of my family and deserve a name and respect. Hippy-dippy, for sure.

I haven't named any of my ukes, but I now know that the one thing I never will call one of these instruments that I regularly hold in my hands is "Little Allan."

Gonna name my new pono after my gf's middle name. One, because it will make her happy. Two...it will help me remember her middle name. Three, if she ever breaks up with me I have an excuse to buy a new one...can't play an ukulele named after an ex, right? =p

Well, if I were to follow this logic I guess I would have to name my KoAloha longneck "Big John..." :)

I don't name my ukes, but I do name Peter.

I find myself saying things like, "Down, Peter, you insolent fleshpot."

Or, "Peter the Pickle, that's what I ought to call you for being so single-minded."

But, no, I never once named a ukulele.

It probably is a bit weird, but so am I. A friend calls my ukulele "Dream Maker". I think she's right. I just say "Ukie" when i adress it.

For the record, I think it's weird to name your ukes. However, I must confess that I did name one of my ukes Mini-Jake:

I've seen a few posts here and different players referring to their ukes by name; felt jealous really...

I have an affinity for my 3 cheap ukes but never named them.

If i ever get an archtop Tenor I think I will name it Johnny Cash, just sayin'

I don't name inanimate objects. If I did, I'd call my table Bob. I'd call my chair Fred. My plate Sally; my knife Ivan; my fork Jim, my napkin Sylvana; my TV Ned; my coffee table Abby; my left shoe Andrea; my right shoe Thomas; my laptop Arthur; my operating system Satan (well, it's Windows...); my mouse Gail; my external monitor Beatrice; my bottle of hot sauce Blair; my comb Robin; my tea mug Charles (not to be confused with my garden rake Charles, of course)....

Where do you stop?

It's silly to name inanimate objects as if they were sentient creatures. What's wrong with the names they come with? The Kala cedar-top tenor? The Mainland mango? The Beansprout baritone? Seems perfectly logical and descriptive to me.

I called my vintage white tenor Collings "Betty".

But it's pronounced with a scottish accent. So really it's "Bet-tay".
She's a saucy little thing.

I have a beat up green Flea soprano that my daughter named Gloria Green. My purple concert Flea is named Eris after the weirdo tenth planet in our solar system. Then I have an off the shelf red concert Flea named Red 5 as in "Red 5 to Red 7, we are ready for our first approach.". Star Wars. So, yeah, I name them all.
