In the guitar world, we tend to assess optimum action by the height of the strings at the 12th fret, among other variables like scale length and type of strings, etc. This measurement can generally be anywhere from maybe 5/64th to 1/8th inch. Obviously some folks like it a tad lower or higher depending upon their style of playing, but most find this range pretty good for playing comfortably.

Is there a similar benchmark for tenor ukes, in other words, what would be a desirable string height at, say, the 12th fret on a tenor uke?

Thanks

Based on what I read, it seems anywhere between 2.5mm to 3.0mm. Low action doesn't seem to be as important for the ukulele as the guitar. As long as you have good intonation at the 12th fret, you'll be happy.
