Music Stand as Carry On?

Has anyone taken a folding wire type music stand in a carry on bag on an airplane?

I'm going to the Reno Uke Fest next week and want to hurry from the plane to catch the airport shuttle so I would rather not check a bag if I can avoid it. I would appreciate hearing if anyone else has been successful carrying a music stand onto a plane or if it was taken away as a potential weapon.

I would also be interested to hear if anyone has an awesome alternative to taking a music stand to a festival in which you expect to attend workshops and be handed new song sheets.

if it's a metal stand, I'd guess they might give you problems.
