Went out to buy a megamillions ticket! LOL

Actually, I was at the grocery store for something else but recalled the hype and decided to buy a ticket. That's pretty unusual for me because I figure I win the lottery every week by keeping my money in my pocket...

Still, $640,000,000 would buy a lot of ukuleles!

Of course, taking lump sum payment and after Obama takes his cut it will be "only" about $200,000,000.

Actually, back when it was still "just" $540M, the take-home (lump sum minus taxes) was $293 million.

That's a lot of custom K-brands to keep in the custom humidor room I build in El Rancho de Sporin.

The lump sum cash out for the $640 million is actually $462 million.
 
Come up here to Canada to play the lotto; there is no tax on lottery winnings.

Well, you can probably buy all the K-brands (the companies, that is) if you win that pot!

But really, I almost moved down to Houston last year. My spouse got a job offer there. But, we're kind of socialist hippies of a sort, plus I wouldn't have been able to work. And...i've never even shot a gun ;)
 
Woah! You get taxed on lottery win in the USA? In the uk, prizes are free of tax!

To be the big winner of the US mega millions is the tax man!
 
Nine coworkers each gave me $1 so I purchased 10 tickets, just after buying a Cordoba 15CM from a guy through Craig's List. I can manage with 1/10 of the grand prize.

The uke is for a friend, although it rivals my son's Mitchell MU-70. Both retail for $99 and I'm a bit indecisive as to which one to give to my friend. My son doesn't care, and guess the friend wou enjoy the deeper darker tone of the Cordoba.


And yes, the big winner of the mega millions is Uncle Sam.
 
I believe Jessica Latshaw started and was discovered playing a Cordoba, and now is on verge of a record deal.

I work for a company that has operations in Canada (and Paris, and London, and a few other non-US locations). Anyway, I had to go to one of our units in Toronto for training a few years ago (in February, gee, thanks boss, July or August would have been my choices). One of the guys up there was this young French-Canadian bean-counter type with an MBA that we had hired the year before right out of college. He was talking about why he came to work for our company and he said it was mostly for the great health coverage. It almost slid by me but when I said something about that not seeming like a big priority for a Canadian citizen he just snorted. I'm not sure exactly what that was supposed to mean, but I gather that he, at least, was not impressed with his "free" coverage. :)

As for shooting...don't worry, I've got plenty of spare guns and I'd be happy to teach you - do you prefer rifle, pistol, or shotgun? :)

Haha! I agree. They're just the most basic requirements for a functioning society. I can never understand why certain countries that can clearly afford it are not providing it to their citizens.
