Ok, so the Reno Uke fest is looking mighty amazing, judging by all of the posts and videos. I opted to go to the Norther California Ukulele Fest; did I make the wrong decision?

Actually, I feel it's two different venues. The Nor Cal Uke Fest mission statement pretty much defines what it's all about . . .
"To promote and perpetuate the playing of 'ukulele music through an annual event for all levels of 'ukulele players while exposing the youth in hopes that they will carry on the traditions and music."

I saw the video's MGM posted and I think the Nor Cal Uke Festival is a little nicer since it is outdoors and also, the performers play inside the nice Amphitheater.

The Reno Uke fest reminds me more of a uke convention whereas the Nor Cal Uke fest is more like a festival atmosphere. YouTube has a lot of videos of past Nor Cal uke festivals.

The performance is indoors (Auditorium, Bldg 1300) . . . vendors are outdoors under the overhang and in the courtyard.

Kind of depends on how you feel about casinos and cigarette smoke!

Some ukulele festivals (like Reno and the Wine Country Ukulele Festival) have workshops and instruction, while others (like NorCal) don't. All the ones I've been to have ongoing performance venues and vendors. Some, like NorCal, lean more toward Hawaiian music, while others don't.

Now that you've been to the NorCal festival, did you have fun? If you did, then your decision sounds like a good one. I'm hoping that the Reno and Norcal festivals are on different weekends next year.

The Reno festival was another great event.
This was my 3rd year, they must be doing something right as I see many of the same people every year.
I will admit that the casino smoke seemed a little thicker this year.
The workshops were excellent and this year seemed to have a little more jamming.
