I just inherited a Yamaha RBX 170 from a friend. The bass was given to me with the intent of having me play with a drummer and guitarist.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a tutorial for picking up the basics. I'd considering buying a DVD package if anything came highly rated. As of now, I've been reading a few books from the library, but its tough to translate frome the page to the instrument.

UU+ was a great way to pick up the basics on the ukulele, but I haven't found anything comparable for the bass. I had never played an instrument until I picked up my ukulele last summer, and I've done very well with that.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Mike

Thank you for those resources. Greatly appreciated.

I'll tell you the best tip I discovered as a beginning bassist: Over one, up two.

Play a note, then move over one string and move up (towards the body) two frets and play another note. Back to the first note. Repeat.

Go on youtube, and search for Dave Marks, Scott Devine, Havic 5 Bass Lessons. Download them. Replay at your speed.
