Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a tenor ukulele and I found the Kala KA-ST [1] seems to be a good deal (169 Euros). However, I like the look of the KA-FMT [2] quite a bit more yet I don't like the fact that it's more pricey as well (239 Euros). ;) So do you guys think it's worth the extra money for the KA-FMT? Is there a quality/tonal difference between mahagony (KA-ST) and maple (KA-FMT) used on the back and side?

I couldn't find much information about the KA-FMT besides the "official one" so I'm very much interested in your opinions!

Thanks,
Michael

Go with the ST. You're paying for cosmetics on the FMT.

I have the FMT and played the ST, I think the Maple one has more "Bark/brightness" to the sound the Magohany is a little more mellow sounding.

But that could also be the strings too when I played the ST it had stock strings and My FMT has D' j-71's but also it has more "Bark" than the stock FMT I was noodling on the other day.

I got my FMT for cosmetics!!!!! it sure is pretty

Thanks for your answers! I already thought that it's mostly cosmetics but I guess cosmetics can also be an important factor. I just imagine myself playing on a purple uke with green stripes... yes, the look is definitely a factor to consider! ;)
