The group I play with every Tuesday night keeps things simple. We all usually sing and strum the same song together and there aren't any "parts". Recently, we did "Under the Boardwalk" and had the guys sing the words "under the boardwalk" and the gals sing "under the sun" and other lines. Then we did the song "Calendar Girl" and had the ladies sing the names of the months while the gentlemen sang the rest of the line. This was so much fun! Even though we all strummed the same chords and mostly sang the same words, having slightly different parts got everyone to pay more attention and consequently play a little better.

Does anyone know other songs that have a chorus that could easily be divided into 2 parts like that?

Thank You,

Nix

How about "Summer Lovin'" from Grease?

"Summer Lovin" is a fabulous idea! I'm going to go searching for the chords now. Thanks!

These 2 are harder songs but our Uke Club does them both with different groups singing different parts...

An easy to play song is "Anyone Else But You" from the Juno soundtrack. The lyrics can be a little racy though so bear in mind your members if you choose it. ;)

Sonny and Cher songs - try "I Got You Babe" (1965).

Maybe "Mockingbird"?

Try songs where backup singers echo the melody: I go walking (I go walking) After midnight (after midnight)... Or When the saints (oh when the saints) Go marching in (go marching in)...

If your group contains musical theater buffs they might know these songs where each part is sung alone and then both parts together. Not easy songs, but really swell when they work:

"All for the Best" from Godspell
"You're Just in Love" from Call Me Madam (I hear singing and there's no one there...)
"Lida Rose/Will I Ever Tell You?" from The Music Man

It sounds like your group is ready for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Assign some folks to the "wimowehs" and others to the melody and fear not.

"Tonight You Belong to Me" is a fun and easy two singer song. Go to YouTube to find loads of covers and a good tutorial.

And if you do it over and over, it'll start feeling like Groundhog Day. :D

Thanks Sporin for posting Africa. That has been going through my husband's head and he's trying to put it into mine. This could be good revenge. :)
