Well, the big day is almost here! Mighty Uke Day is being held all day and night on May 5, with some special "kick-off" events on May 4. This will be a very special day of fun and music, great for families and the young-at-heart of all ages. There are workshops, a concert, movie showings, open mic, group strums, children's activities, giveaways, and more. Even if you don't play the ukulele, you will have a great time getting into the "Aloha Vibe" of the day. FRIDAY, MAY 4
Noon - 1:00: WLNZ Radio Diner Concert at Sir Pizza (201 E. Grand River). Broadcast live on 89.7 FM and at www.lcc.edu/radio/onair/ worldwide. Featuring a large variety of group and individual ukulele performers. We did this last year and it was huge fun! FREE!

4:00: Lil' Rev Mini-Concert and Poetry Reading at Elderly Instruments (1100 N. Washington). Catch the always energetic and entertaining Lil' Rev as he sings, plays the uke (of course!) and reads a few selections from his new book "Ukulele Nation: The Poetry of the Uke" www.elderly.com/events/2012/event_page?eid=922

SATURDAY, MAY 5
10 - 11:00 am: Group Strum at Sir Pizza. Bring your uke and play/sing along with everyone to get the day started right! Songs will be posted on the plasma screen or buy a souvenir Mighty Uke Day Songbook. FREE!

11:00 - 12:30: Lil' Rev "Super Cool Right Hand Techniques" Workshop at Elderly Instruments. Learn tremolo tricks, flips, slides, vibrato effects, shakes, triple strums, the fan stroke and many more tips on how to improve your right hand strumming, Open to all levels.

11:00 - 12:00 Children's Workshop and Concert with Hilo Greg at The Mustang (1213 Turner). Ann Arbor's Hilo Greg has written a variety of delightful songs for children. Greg will teach your child a few easy chords and songs and play a few of his own in this fun-filled family show. Bring your own uke or use one of our loaners. FREE!

12:45 - 2:45 "Mighty Uke" Movie Showing at The Mustang. MIGHTY UKE travels the world to discover why so many people of different nations, cultures, ages and musical tastes are turning to the ukulele to express themselves, connect with the past, and with each other. From the Redwoods of California through the gritty streets of New York, from swinging London through Tokyo’s highrise canyons to Hawaii, ukers tell the story of the people’s instrument: The Mighty Uke. 2:30 - 4:00 Lil' Rev "Hot Licks for Ukulele" Workshop at Elderly Instruments. Learn intros, endings, turnarounds, fills, licks, riffs, and fun melodic phrases. How to apply them to chord progressions and how to put them together to construct a solo. Open to players who already know how to play some basic melody.

3:00 - 4:00 Ukulele Luthiery with Dave Talsma at Gallery 1212. Dave Talsma, onne of the world's finest ukulele makers, will be discussing his craft and showing off some of his amazing custom ukes. FREE!

4:30 - 6:00 Gerald Ross "Swing Ukulele" Workshop at Gallery 1212 (1212 Turner). Gerald Ross is a renowned ukulele and Hawaiian steel guitarist who has just released his newest CD "Swing Ukulele". He will be conducting a Swing Ukulele workshop, focusing on the chords, solos, and rhythms that made the 1930s & 1940s a magical time in the history of popular music. THE $25 FEE WILL INCLUDE A COPY OF GERALD'S NEW CD!

7:30 - 10:00 Mighty Uke Day Concert at The Mustang.
