Does anyone have a pointer to a sound sample of one of these "Echo Uke" devices (http://www.ukulele.org/?Ukulele_Journal#a3)?

It's just adding some additional "High Q" resonators. They would likely work kind of like sympathetic strings...within a very narrow frequency/note band.

The device in the Loar F-5s was a "Virzi Tone Producer", and the jury is still out on those things. Apparently some of the classical mando players like them; the Bluegrassers hate them because they soften the attack and bark that is so desired.
