I am putting in an order for new Aquila strings, regular tuning, for my tenor uke. It currently has on it a set with wound 3rd string. I am trying to decide whether to order a new set of all plain strings or a set with the wound 3rd string.

I was wondering the pros/cons of plain versus wound.

Thanks, Charis

You really didn't say if you do or don't favor a wound. There are those who do like wounds and there are those who don't. IMO wounds give you deeper bass. I think the biggest complaint about wounds is life span and noise. BTW, wounds are not created equal. Most of those who do like wounds end up using Southcoast G650 Linears (flat/round wounds).

If you decide on non-wound, there are several sets you can opt for such as Worth, Martin, D'Addario, Fremont, Orca being the more popular choices. Southcoast also has non wound sets.

I don't haven't played long enough to have a preference but that is a point about the wounds wearing before the others.
