Just curious about the unusual places, where and when, you've all whipped your ukes out?

I'm fairly new, so I haven't had much opportunity to push the boundaries of acceptable uke behavior. :)

Dunno if it's strange. But, I frequently "whoop" mine out at school sporting evens in the stands. So far, everyone around me have been very supportive, and welcoming of it.

Hmmmm...that would probably be on my last job when I played through my annual performance review...

(Just kidding)

I was in a far flung area of India when a heap of cobras came into the village. The local snake charmer was out of town and the locals will in a panic. I did only what I thought proper and began to play the snake charmers song on my little soprano. The cobras all gathered round me then began to follow me right out of town. The soprano saved the day!!!

That's pretty cool. Yeah, it doesn't have to be strange necessarily. I'm more curious how creative people get with finding places to play.

I'm assuming at least somebody on here has probably played for a wedding ceremony?

We have day-long trainings at work. In the ones my assistant runs, the staff tend to start draggin ass after lunch. So I burst in at about 2pm, sing badly at the top of my lungs, and run back out.

Now they anticipate and even request it. It's hilarious.

Today I went for my weekly allergy shot. I had just eaten an apple and it turns out that apple cross-reacts with some of the antigens so I started having a reaction. Normally, I sit outside and use the 30 minute waiting period to practice the uke. When I started having a reaction I went back into the Doc's office and they gave me some benedryl, sat me in an exam room, and ran some breathing tests. Left the door open and told me to play away, so I serenaded the Docs and patients for 40 minutes. Strange but I figured if I could keep singing I mustn't be in too bad shape.

Pulled my uke out at a drive-in theatre once. Nobody cared because no one was watching the movie.

In a poppy field in the middle of the California desert?

I did bring one with me several times last year when I had hospital procedures and surgery, as did my uke buddy who escorted me, but sadly we never got the opportunity to play.

Umm...my uke hanger resides on the wall between my shower and my bedroom. I have been known to knock a few out in the buck to offer necessary inspiration to the "what am I gonna wear" ritual. Well, that and it cracks my wife up.
Other than that- I made the paper for playing all day at our local history center while I was supposed to be working.

Awesome stories so far. Keep 'em coming.

janeray - beautiful photo.

Freeda - wow, I might have to take my uke to a company meeting. I've already prosthelytized to a co-worker/buddy of mine, told him he needs to get a uke. He's way better at guitar than I am, and I'm sure he'll be able to rock a uke quicker too.

Maybe you should have just had the apple and leave the pharmacutical profit pills alone, these doctors will tell you anything to get more frequent flyer points.

My wife and i played in back of a rickshaw (pedal Taxi) in downtown Charleston on the way to/from the marketplace to the Aquarium. Of course we had to play "the Charleston" complete with Kazoo. We got caught by a train in front of the Aquarium on the way back and played a mini concert for all the pedestrians. The first driver (a musician) thought it was cool, the second driver acted a little embarrassed. We had a blast.

I did!!! This past weekend I played a friend's wedding. Was real laid back outdoors deal and we were just gonna just provide a little background ambiance, but when we arrived we were asked if we knew the Wedding March....we didn't...so me and my guitar pickin buddy worked it up real quick and as the bride started down the isle, all she could hear was me and and my buddy pickin' out Here Comes The Bride.....

While driving my car.

I was once on a train in Thailand, we had to wait for an oncoming train to pass a rural station so the train sat there on the tracks for about an hour. I pulled out my uke and amuzed everyone including myself.
