Couple Questions

Alright so I am looking to buy a Ukulele and I was on Jame Hill website http://www.ukulelejames.com/index.htm and in his F.A.Q he gave a link for a good beginner Ukulele.

This is the one he says is great for a beginner... what does everyone think?

Also if I am going to get that one, which tuning do I get done to it? The website says there is three different types!? My guess would be the G,C,E,A just cause I always hear people talking about those.

And last question is...is there a place I can find lots of songs to learn that I dont need to sing as I suck at singing but I want to learn how to play and play some good songs without singing.. anyways that is all and I hope someone can help me out as I have never played before and I want to get something worth my money but not to much just in case I get it and stop playing in a month...Thanks

Hey here goes my attempt to answer your questions:

1. I've never seen or heard of that ukulele before but I personally think that the concert is a good size uke to start with because I find it easier to hold and the fret board is bigger than the soprano making it easier for me to play. The best starter ukes I've seen are Lanikais, a lot of people on here also like Kalas which I hear are good too.

The UU store (http://ukuleleunderground.com/products-page/) also sell a few models that might interest you.

2. The best tuning I'd suggest is high-G tuning (re-entrant tuning) which is gcea, this seems to be the most popular type of tuning and certainly seems to be what most songs are played in on youtube and what most ukulele tabulature is written in.

3. I can't sing either, the UU has tonnes of tabs (like sheet music for people who can't read sheet music) for various different songs and a lot of cool tutorial videos showing you how to play various songs and how to master different techniques. There are also live lessons every Wednesday. I suggest you pick a song you like then find the tab for it and a video of someone else playing it and try to work it out from there.

Just purchased that uke

Just purchased the uke you linked to. I am very much a beginner and this is my 2nd. I really like it. I'm sure that compared to more expensive ukes it's not that great, but I like the tone and it's pretty much in tune all the way down the neck. More than serviceable for me.

Oh thats good to hear that someone bought the same uke, now I was reading on that site I posted, when I order it I will order with the tuning of G,C,E,A but what do I do for the high 4th string or a low 4th string?? Which one do I want?:nana:

Actually I emailed empire music a while ago about that brand and they said that the classic is made in the same place Lanikai's are made, so I'm pretty sure its like a lanikai just branded differently (eg.if you look at the sites koa concert its the same detailing as a Lanikai koa). So yeah good beginner instrument. I personally prefer the concert size just because a soprano is a little small and a tenor is a little big for me so the concert size is just right. Best of both worlds I guess.
