Uke Forums

Google "ukulele forum" and you will get a few options. What do you mean by "allow foreiGners to join"?

Uke Talk / Ukulele Cosmos / ezfolk / 4th Peg etc etc but this forum is cooler, more laid back, and you get free ukes.

There are OTHER ukulele forums?!

I read ukulele cosmos. I filled in the application, but they never activated my membership. It's full of cynicism though - lots of hating on guitars, lots of hating on the way people play (if they deem that you play a ukulele like a guitar, or want it to look like one, with geared tuners for instance, or a cutaway, then you are pretty much the lowest of the low). I read very selectively, because parts of it make me miserable and demotivated, and I have had no desire to apply again for membership!

You mean that you apologiZe for your error?

I was on EZFolk for a while, but it just wasn't very active...

I hate to be pedantic but the correct spelling of apologise is with an s! It's you blasted Americans that keep changing our great language!

noone has listed Fleamarketmusic.com yet.... suprising kind of like the Cosmos but with out the vibe.

Live 'Ukulele, not really a forum but comments are welcome. Good articles, interviews, tips, reviews, etc. and Hippie Guy is also a member here.

The archives on the Fleamarket are great, especially if you are looking for great discussions of ukulele building by the various luthiers and for reviews of various ukuleles. I also enjoy the Cosmos and Uketalk, but check them less than I do here or the Fleamarket.

The UU is the largest and most amiable of the ukulele forum arena. There are more posts here in one day than all the others have combined in a week. Like everything else it's nice to visit the others for a short trip, but we always arrive back to our home at the UU. Most of the forums have pretty good content. Ric

It is not wise to dis other forums...:uhoh:

ukulelecosmos has over 1700 members without advertising or giveaways and the lady who runs it has a full time job and is committed. (It would be good to link to it so you can make up your own mind...) Yes, there is a lot of joshing and snipping goes on there but unlike UU it is unmoderated so people get their hair off real easily. The upside is you can have a go without being threatened with expulsion which for some, is reason enough to post :p

I disagree that it's negative - it has a different vibe and the overwhelming interest is not 'new wave' like you dudes here. As a builder I am interested in any forum and subscribe to most tho it is some time since I have visited 4th peg.

This is a young guns forum and I love it. As an old fart I also like cosmos but I do get ratty when some of the really old farts and crusties start pontificating. They seem to forget, as Johnny-come-latelys' that I have been building ukes for 14 years cutting my ukulele teeth in the Hawaiian market. I don't know everything, I'm no expert, but I do know a thing or two. Those 5 years building for Music Exchange in Hilo really taught me something - you Island dudes are really hard to please:nana:

Perhaps I shouldn't knock it Pete, but I'm probably a little sore that my registration was completely ignored, and there's a lot on there that pains me. I think there's quite a lot of attitude there which diminishes the uke, and that's a sad thing. There's no need to defend the uke against the guitar, and the roasting that people get if they're deemed to be in any way guitaristic is ridiculous. I think I'm content to read it, rather than post.

I think you have to have a huge sense of irony when you join cosmos - it after all very British despite the number of International posters and we British tend to enjoy ribbing each other with violent debate. There is certainly a lot of polaraization of views especially when it comes to Jake and James - it would be fair to say most of us totally fail to understand where these guys are coming from. So I'm not surprised you get bad vibes. Stick with it. I have with this forum and have had some great pm dialogue with you guys.

I am 6 weeks away from revealing the Firefly - watch the video account coming soon...

BTW Ric - what is a paradigm?

I'm English Pete, so I don't think it's that. I'm a guitarist, and a guitar journalist. I play a very cheap uke, and it has geared tuners. As far as I can see, I'm just flamebait over there! As I say, there's plenty of good stuff, and I enjoy reading it, but I don't think I want to expose myself to it!

BTW Ric - what is a paradigm?

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/paradigm - look at the third meaning.

The paradigm in this case is that the beleived perception of this being a forum of only a bunch of youngsters is considered as fact by some, when in fact the median age of this forum is actually close to 40.

The UU spans a wide range of ages from sub-teen, to way past middle-aged. Perfect examples are RussBuss and Ke Leo, who are older than Moses, but appears like they're not old enough to legally drink beer! LOL! Ric
