View Full Version : Good TV shows that got cancelled

Anyone have any shows that they were following and the networks cancel them?

I actually kept up with Journeyman when it was on. It was really similar to quantum leap. They had a good story arc going and they canceled the show right when they were going to reveal an important part of the story!

Carpoolers and knights of prosperity were two more that got canceled and I really liked. I thought they were actually really funny. Bring em back!

Sifl and Ollie. Haha, actually, it was a pretty terrible show. I can understand why this one was cancelled. It had its moments, though.

Other shows that will definitely be mentioned here, that I agree should not have been cancelled: Firefly, Arrested Development, and Pete and Pete. All brilliant. All cancelled for the wrong reasons.

Sifl and Ollie.

That show was THE BOMB. I watch it online from time to time. I love that "the pandas are coming" song. And now that I know Ame, it makes me think of her. lol

I think Nickelodeon had awesome shows in the 90s. I remember in the afternoon I'd watch What Would You Do, Hey Dude and Salute Your Shorts. And I remember Snick, and they'd play The Adventures of Pete and Pete, and Are You Afraid of the Dark, Ren and Stimpy...That was some good stuff back then. Last year there was this show on NBC called Drive. It has a crazy storyline that there was this international race and they get all these people from all over to be in the race. There was like a mother and a child with a bad father whos never there, a dad and his daughter, 2 brothers, ones white and the others mexican. It was pretty intense, but i guess no one was watching that. Oh well =P

I really enjoyed Firefly, also. One that was axed this year that I felt had potential was My Own Worst Enemy. It wasn't the most original stuff on TV, but I felt it was a lot stronger than Knight Rider or Robinson Crusoe.

I'm just kind of sad overall that the American remake of Life on Mars sucked so badly. I was hoping that'd be a quality show.

I'll dredge this post up from the murky past to say... I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm a huge Firefly nerd. Loved Arrested Development too. The live-action version of the The Tick was great too.

But if I could magically bring back any one show from the dead, it would be Freaks and Geeks. That show was brilliant.

They are finishing out the second season by airing remaining episodes, but they have announced that it will not be coming back for any more seasons. I read somewhere that the season finale had been a cliff hanger so they re-filmed portions to make closure since it was now going to be a series finale.

Shame. Emerson Cod had some great one liners.

MWC is probably one of my favorite shows of all time! Luckily I own the DVDs (that have been released) and can pop one of those in and watch it all freakin' day.

As for show that was canceled WAY too soon, "Life As We Know It", it was on ABC. I am glad they did decide to put it on DVD though.

I agree about Firefly! I just finished the series a week or two ago (it took me less than a week to do so, though; it was that good.) Probably the best show I've ever seen. It drives me insane every time I realize that Fox keeps airing drivel when they didn't treat Firefly well enough to keep it around. (They aired the episodes out of order, and I think they even aired the intended pilot last.) It's on Hulu for anyone who hasn't seen it.

More votes here for Firefly and Arrested Development (bring on the movie!)

My inner nerd feels compelled to vote for Enterprise. I know the second season Xindi arc was godawful, but when they finally got some sense and kicked B&B to the background (a couple of Star Trek shows too late if you ask me!) and gave the helm to Manny Coto, the third season started to really take off. Too little, too late though. Coupled with poor Nielson ratings (which is a flawed system that the networks, specifically Fox, give too much credence, hence the demise of Arrested Development) it was a real shame that Enterprise got the boot, because it was finally shaping up into some quality sci-fi.

At least they can't seem to keep Family Guy and Futurama down :)

Two great shows that had a pretty decent run, but were nonetheless cancelled before they could finish their current story arc, and so had to hastily cram a bunch of plot in at the end:

Farscape (http://www.henson.com/fantasy_scifi.php?content=farscape)

firefly.

the wife and i have the dvd set of all of the shows. yes, all 15 of 'em. we watch them every now & then.

hated what joss did to some of the characters in the movie "serenity." i suppose that made pretty sure that they didn't bring the show back without him. could make some in between episodes maybe, but the actors are getting older and some are showing it more than others.

would love to see some more horatio hornblower on a&e. but not sure if that's really a tv show. more like movies that come out every now & then. the hh star ioan gruffudd (amazing grace, fantastic 4, blackhawk down) said they a&e/bbc stopped making them because of the expense.

Dear Diary:

Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. Today we were kidnapped by hill-folk never to be seen again. It was the best day ever.

Is anyone else surprised that Jayne knows the word "pompous"?

Here's some shows that I liked, which got canceled:

The Tick (1994-1996)

Bless you for saying The Tick.

But don't forget Red Dwarf (the BBC version) (mmm Craig Charles and his rastabilly skankin ways nomnomnom), Cleopatra 2525 (okay, it was terrible, but a girl-centric futuristic scifi even if it was meant to be a wet dream, was worth the funny), Dead Like Me and My So-Called Life.

Yes, the Tick was the best show, ever!

I just discovered this Canadian show (that is no long running, apparently). It's called Trailer Park Boys, and it sort of a cross between Cops, Reno 911, and My Name is Earl. The show is a comedy about a camera crew doing a documentary about a bunch of white-trash trailer park people living in Canada. Its really funny. They have all the seasons, plus a movie, on Netflix.

Arrested Development was great. It is great. I have all three seasons on DVD and I've watched through them at least twice; never gets old for me. It's just so good.

I never really watched The Adventures of Pete & Pete when I was growing up because I think Little Pete annoyed me. I went back and rewatched all the episodes when I was in high school and I can't believe I had missed out on how awesome this show was. They always had awesome guest stars, too. Iggy Pop, Michael Stipe, Syd Straw, Richard Edson, Steve Buscemi, LL Cool J, Debbie Harry, Marshall Crenshaw... man, that was good stuff right there.

Flight of the Conchords. Apparently, HBO wanted a 3rd season, but Bret and Jermaine thought 2 was enough.

I liked it a lot.

I am so incredibly stoked for the movie. I'm going to be standing outside the theaters on opening night in my Bluth's Famous Frozen Bananas shirt, grinning like a mad fool. Yes, I have a Bluth shirt. (No, wait. I have three.)

I didn't read the whole thread, but I hope someone else shares the huge pain that came with the cancellation of Carnivale...ending on a cliff hanger, it was like American Gothic all over again!

The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.

Technically, he quit. But it's still sad to see him leave. Hopefully he'll be back on TV in 7 months.

+1 for "Firefly"

http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/6972/fireflycastsmalloq1.jpg

Firefly was the first thing I thought of when I read the title for this thread! I was one of the people who didn't actually watch it until after it came out on DVD though, so I wasn't actually a fan of it while it was on TV. However, now that I've seen it, I can't even begin to understand why anyone would cancel it.

Aww yeah that's another good one. I think that Bret and Jemaine didn't do a third season because they wanted to go back to New Zealand to be close to their family. That was such a great show, I have both seasons on my computer.

I don't know if this one's been mentioned yet, but I loved Invader Zim. It was one of those rare shows that I followed from the very beginning. I was a fan of Jhonen Vasquez (the creator) from his previous comic books, so I was really excited when he created the show, then it got cancelled after 20-something episodes. Very sad :(
