This is a song Richard Thompson co-wrote as a teenager. It was on the first Fairport Convention album in 1968. I learned this sometime back in the '90s, but I don't remember why. Probably because in the pre-Internet days, it was about the only Fairport song I could figure out.
When I started hanging around other uke players and hearing them talk about different strums, I realized that the arrangement I'd come up with included three very different styles. There's a regular strum on the verse, a few pizzicato chords in the pre-chorus, and then I strum the chorus with the meat of my thumb while fingerpicking with my other fingers.
