swithcraft stereo endpin jack socket

Hi Chaps
Here's hoping you can help.
I'm fitting a JJB pickup into my uke and need to wire a Switchcraft
'stereo' endpin jack socket as a 'mono' connection. The jack socket has two connections available plus the ground.
Am I right in thinking that the shorter of the two available connections is the 'live' (hot) one that I need to use?
