Hi there,
Inspired by the title of the thread "Island Frame of Mind" - I offer you guys (incl. gals) the first Ukulele arrangement I have dared to post here. It's your basic C, F & G - but I still enjoy the challenge of writing songs in three chords sometimes. (BTW The sound is a Lanikai Concert Ukulele LU21-C - recorded on a Zoom H1)
The song is called "If this world's a ball" and it was inspired by a documentary about the islands off the North of Scotland in which the presenter seemed to be missing the point of island life.
Here is a link:
Scroll down to New Song - below the song list.
And here are the lyrics
If this world’s a ball
The Highlands and islands were on the tube again,
Same old song ‘bout the Ends of the Earth
“A dying language and fading culture….”
Droned on the presenter for all he was worth.
(But) If this world's a ball
Then there’s no end to it.
No beginning, up-country, heartland.
For those who think it revolves 'round your home town
Let me remind you the centre
Depends where you stand.
One pole’s North and one pole’s South they say,
Go ask an astronaut, which one is which?
Has a life more value with a different geography?
Can anyone define what makes a life rich?
CHORUS
You can keep your crowds
And your traffic filled motorways,
If that’s what you want, then good luck to you.
I’ll stand ‘neath the stars with the wind roaring over me
Knowing my island life, it has value too.
CHORUS
