Rosewood or Ebony?

They both make great fretboards. There are many variables within the uke world that will impact the sound of an instrument a hell of a lot more than ebony vs. rosewood fretboard. Under scientific conditions you might measure a difference. The real world doesn't really work that way.

Anyone that claims that rosewood sounds like......and ebony sounds like.............is waaaaayy over simplifying things in terms of the ukulele as a musical machine and wwaaaay over complicating things in terms of just kick back and strum away.

Not much difference in sound, a little but not something a beginner is going to notice and, as Liam rightly points out, other factors have way more impact on the sound.

Back in the days when you could still get really good ebony it tended to be tighter grained, smoother, and harder than rosewood - and therefore a different feel and lending itself to string bending a little more smoothly like hard maple - but finding that kind of ebony is pretty rare these days.
