My latest original, "Darwin Almost Got me".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xONP58_1wvc

Gm7 (3535) C9 (3435) four times
Cm7 (3333) Cm6 (2333) three times
D7+5 (3223)

I was hiking in the woods
a walk in the park
somehow I failed to find my trail
it started getting dark

Well I figured out the problem
had it diagnosed
when I turned a corner and came face to face
with Charles Darwin's ghost

Darwin almost got me
time to flee or fight
he said "listen dude, don't cop a 'tude
or you'll be buzzards' delight"

I had no food, no fire
no sleeping bag
looks like I'll freeze tonight
man, what a drag

Darwin almost got me
for my foolish stunt
in his eyes I was the prize
of a scavenger hunt

Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose
but please oh Lord
last thing I want to win
is a Darwin Award

Darwin almost got me
had me in his sights
I was stranded, empty handed
he had me dead to rights

As luck would have it
the moon came out
I found my way
I said "later Chuck, I wish you luck
some other day"

Darwin almost got me
He may get me yet
but not that day, I got away
and I never will forget

I've done so many foolish things
but I'm still alive
I guess that doesn't really prove
I'm fit to survive

Darwin almost got me
that was close
no hard feelings, right Chuck?
Yeah, we're good, bro
say hi to the missus
cheerio, old chap
hasta la vista, Charlie
Darwin almost got me

Nice song.
I think the last lines should be rewritten to something that rhymes, but thats just me.

that's a hoot, Doug - the lyrics work really well and it has a great tune. I dig the changes - gonna have to 'borrow' a little of that, a great jazzy sound on the uke.....

Thanks. I don't think I realized it at the time, but I was probably influenced by the spoken parts of "The Ballad of Jed Clampett", aka "The Beverly Hillbillies Song":

"Hillbilly, that is
Take your shoes off
Set a spell
Y'all come back now
Y'hear?"

Thanks, I like progressions where there is just a half-tone difference between two chords. I think that Gm7/C9 is also fairly common in some latin tunes.
