iPad & iTunes question.

I'm sure this has been asked before but couldn't find it before starting new thread. You can import songs on GarageBand from iTunes library on computer but from what I've read it can't be done on iPad and importing from the my music folder on iPad where my songs are stored. Is this correct?
I have the iPad 1.
