1932. music Harold Arlen; lyrics Ted Koehler.
originally recorded by Cab Calloway in 1931, the song has gone on to become a popular standard, having also been recorded by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Frank Sinatra and more recently - and famously - by George Harrison.
with its witty and wonderful lyric and catchy melody, it sits comfortably alongside some of the greatest and most loved tunes by ukulele players and jazz aficianados alike.
This is my entry for the '20th season of uke: Heaven and Hell' (Thanks Ukelites!!!) and I'm playing my brand new Covered Bridge concert ukulele. I've only had it 10 minutes but couldn't resist taking it for a test drive on this tune, inspired by Fernando and Luana's take on it the other day. It has a gorgeous warm and sweet voice and is stunning aesthetically. Perhaps the best sounding uke I've ever played straight out of the box. It already sounds better than my Collings...it's scary to think how good it'll get once it begins to open up. Just an amazing, wonderful uke. Thankyou so much Terry and Perry, I'll treasure this, you guys are grand. )
