I finished writing this on Saturday and played it on 3 open mike stages Sunday. It was pretty well received so I think this will become one of my regular songs.

KING COLEíS BLUES

Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he;
He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl
And he called for his fiddlers three.

chorus
Hey diddle diddle, the Cat and the fiddle,
The Cow jumped over the moon,
The little dog laughed to see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon

Fiddler number one wasnít having any fun
So he taught his tabby to play
The King found out and threw them both out
With a dish of cat food for their pay
Chorus

My belt just broke, my pants are falliní
Cried the second violin
When he tried to bow, he scared the cow
And it jumped right over him
Chorus

The last fiddle player was DEA
Sent to check out Coleís pipe
When he smelt the residue, the drug dog knew
The King would be in jail that night
Chorus

Now the moral of the story
If a moral there must be
Is drop the spoon and dance to the tune
Thatís laid down by on the ukulele
Chorus
The Old King howled and he sang the blues
When the dish ran away with the spoon

That's a fun piece John. I like the way you developed the story and gave it some background worthy of the back stories in "LOST" ;)

BTW We are fellow Soundclick Artists: Check out some of my stuff here (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=3220):

Not got any Uke stuff there yet, though

Thanks for listening and posting a response. I'll be singing it at a festival open mic today. I hope that I don't get the stage jitters today.

I've played this at several open mics this summer. Mrs Worm caprtured a few on her iPhone.

Slight variations in two open mic performances in Nashville
