He's from Hawaii, so he might know a few chords, right? Has anyone in HI ever heard of Barack playing an ukulele?

Just cuz he went to harvard doesnt mean he has any brains. look at his motives, he wants to tax people that make over $120,000 and tax people who have a paid for, mortgage free HOME! thats destroying the american dream. Next thing u know he will take away our ukuleles! I will NOT let that happen :P

Me thinks you have been well trained by your parents, grasshopper! Remember to look at both sides of an issue before taking a stand. That way when you are old enough to vote, you will make a well informed choice with your own brain. Please don't take offense at this post, just a little wisdom from a really old lady.

I agree, but I also just want to point out that arguing over politics on an ukulele site is rather absurd. I am NOT saying anyone has been arguing, i just dont want it to escalate to that(yeah i cant spell). I know this topic started on ukuleles but it has the potential to be a finger mashing, keyboard breaking, anger debate.

You know, I was about to weigh in on this, but you're right. There are enough other places to argue politics. Lets keep it chilled, and ukulele.

I'd add that you really shouldn't be getting your voting information from TV attack ads and partisan talking points. Take it all with a grain of salt.

The Interweb has some good resources use them.

Factcheck.org (http://www.factcheck.org/) for example. It's a non-partisan bullshiat detector.

Here's a decent run down of the tax stuff from the St Petersburg Times (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/subjects/taxes/?gclid=CJ757I-J1ZYCFSEhDQodAmDS3w). You might be surprised. Obama and McCain both exaggerate and fudge. Learn something before you start jerking your knee around.

And seriously, please don't be bringing that kind of nonsense here. I come here for the quiet contemplation of the ukulele. (I've got other forums for talking politics.) Please honor the general convivial, helpful and generally uplifting sense of comradeship that exists as players of the ukulele that has nothing to do with politics.

From Ukulele Hunt:

Woodshed: Thanks for the shoutout, but in the interest of fairness I must confess that I added the ukulele into the Obama picture myself.

…although based on that lei around his neck, I DO think the uke was there in spirit before I added it!

I'm so disappointed. I had visions of Obama in the oval office mulling over thw country's troubles, strumming absent mindedly...

That photo of Obama playing is a fake. Actually, G.W. Bush really does play the Uke. His one daughter does too.

According to Ukulelia, playing the Uke is a Bush family tradition.

I went to every one of those fact checking type websites referenced in this thread, and not one answered the central question: Can he play the uke?

If I could ask a follow up question... I'd also like to know, if he does play, then does he strum Mele Kalikimaka on Christmas or does he thrash out a wicked cover of Inna Gadda Da Vida, with a amped and distorted 'lectric uke? The ukulele caucus want to know!
