I have looked at the Fleabag songbook. Of course I know the chorus to all the songs but for many of them I don't know the verse melody.

I have the same problem. But often someone else in a group does so they just lead the singing bit. Last time I played at Marshall Music one of the sales girls led a song for us because I could play but not sing it.

As a hold-out who doesn't use Facebook, is there any general information needed before showing up for the strum.

I saw the mention of the Fleabag Songbook. Is that the source being used for songs?

4.5 hour drive, doable every so often. you are lucky you are close to Bells Brewery.
Also being the second Saturday helps since mine is the first Saturday. I will not be at this one, but maybe October?

Bell's is right downtown, so only about 20 min from our jam site. Might as well come make a day of it, Kalamazoo is a great place with lots to do!

Vicksburg is about 7 miles from where the Kalamazoo group meets. (It's actually just a couple of miles south of my house.)

Check out our website, there's links on the right for uke jams and other jams. http://kalamazukes.blogspot.com/ There is a ton of uking and jamming to be done in Michigan.

How far is Gerald Ross from you, Freeda? He'd be amazing entertainment, and instructional, too. His contact and Press Kit is linked here.

Freeda, will your new group be strumming, or get into chorusing of tunes? What do I mean...PeeWee and Lori and Janeray's group in SoCal plays differently than most groups I have heard of. They play parts of songs, divide them, and conquer. Some pick, while some strum, and they actually work on tunes rather than just toss out a buch of new three-chord tunes each time. You might ask any of them about it, but seems successful (but would need to have intermediate players in the group, for the most part, I think).

Good luck on your new group. You look like a nice bunch of uke enthusiasts, from your photo.

I sure adore GErald Ross' stuff and instruction.

I should message them to see what they could share with me. I think that sounds like a great way to make the group more challenging. We have primarily intermediate players, I would say. No real newbs.

I took a workshop with Gerald last spring at Mighty Uke Day. He's a nice guy.

Three Little Fishies

[G] Down in the [G6] meadow in a [C] little bitty [D7] pool

Swam [G] three little [G6] fishies and a [C] mamma fishie [D7] too

[G] "Swim" said the [G6] mamma fishie [C] "Swim if you [C#dim] can"

And they [D7] swam and they [C7] swam right [D7] over the [G] dam.

Chorus

[G] Boop boop [G6] dit-tem dat-tem [C] what-tem [D7] Chu!

[G] Boop boop [G6] dit-tem dat-tem [C] what-tem [D7] Chu!

[G] Boop boop [G6] dit-tem dat-tem [C] what-tem [C#dim] Chu!

And they [D7] swam and they [C7] swam right [D7] over the [G] dam.

[G] "Stop" said the [G6] mamma fishie "or [C] you'll get [D7] lost"

But the [G] 3 little [G6] fishies didn't [C] want to be [D7] bossed

So the [G] 3 little [G6] fishies went [C] off on a [C#dim] spree

And they [D7] swam and they [C7] swam right [D7] out to the [G] sea.

Chorus…And they swam and they swam right out to the sea.

[G] "Whee" said the [G6] little fishes [C] "here's a lot of [D7] fun

We'll [G] swim in the [G6] sea till the [C] day is [D7] done"

So they [G] swam and they [G6] swam and [C] it was a [C#dim] lark

Till [D7] all of a [C7] sudden they [D7] saw a [G] shark!

Chorus…Till all of a sudden they saw a shark!

[G] "Help" cried the [G6] little fishies [C] "Look at the [D7] whales!"

And [G] quick as they [G6] could, turned [C] on their [D7] tails

And [G] back to the [G6] pool in the [C] meadow they [C#dim] swam

And they [D7] swam and they [C7] swam back [D7] over the [G] dam.

[G] Sittin' in the mornin' [B7] sun

I'm [G] sittin' on the dock of the [A7] bay
Wastin' [G] time [E7]

[G] Look [D] like [C] nothing's gonna change
[G] Every[D] thing [C] still remains the same
[G] I can't [D] do what [C] ten people tell me to do
[F] So I guess I'll re[D] main the same

[G] Sittin' here resting my [B7] bones
And this [C] loneliness won't leave [B] me [Bb] a[A]lone
It's [G] two thousand miles I [B7] roamed
Just to [C] make this do[B]ck [Bb] my [A] home

Up On Cripple Creek
The Band

When [A] I get off of this mountain, you [D] know where I want to go?
[A] Straight down the [D] Mississippi River to the [E7] Gulf of Mexico.
[A] To Lake Charles, Louisianna, little [D] Bessie, a girl who I once knew.
[A] She told me just to [D]come on by if there's [E7] anything that she could do.

Chorus:
[A] Up on Cripple Creek, she sends me.
[D] If I spring a leak, she mends me.
[E7] I don't have to speak, she defends me.
A [F#m] drunkard's dream if I [G] ever did see one.

[A] Good luck had just stung me, to the [D] race track I did go.
[A] She bet on [D] one horse to win and I [E7] bet on another to show.
The [A] odds were in my favor, I [D] had them five to one.
[A] That nag to win came [D] round the track, [E7] sure enough she had won.

Chorus:

I [A] took up all of my winnings and I [D] gave little Bessie half.
[A] She tore it up and [D] threw it in my face [E7] just for a laugh.
[A] There's one thing in the whole wide world [D] I sure would like to see.
[A] That's when that little [D] love of mine dips her [E7] doughnut in my tea.

Chorus:

[A] Me and my mate we were back at the shack, we had [D] Spike Jones on the box.
[A] She says, "I [D] can't take the way he sings, but I [E7] love to hear him talk."
Now [A] that just gave my heart a throb to the [D] bottom of my feet.
And I [A] swore as I took [D] nother pull, my [E7] Bessie can't be beat.

Chorus:

There's a [A] flood out in California and up [D] north it's freezing cold
[A] And this living [D] on the road is [E7] getting pretty old.
So I [A] guess I'll call up my big mama, [D] tell her I'll be rolling in.
But you [A] know, deep down, I'm [D] kind of tempted to [E7] go and see my Bessie again.

[A] Up on Cripple Creek, she sends me.
[D] If I spring a leak, she mends me.
[E7] I don't have to speak, she defends me.
A [F#m] drunkard's dream if I [G] ever did see one. [A]
