When starting up, what are the best books to teach yourself to a good standard?

I found Uncle Rod's Boot Camp great not only for learning chords, but learning chords in some sort of logic. You practice all possible chords in the Key of C, for example, before moving on to the next key. You can learn chords from a chart, but the repetition of doing only one key at a time helps you understand what chords go together, sounds great (since they all go together), and helps your fingers get used to common chord changes.

You can practice A then B then C, but it won't sound as great, and you probably will rarely play a B and then C chord together in an actual musical setting.

I agree here as well. If you get "Ukulele for Dummies" get the regular book and not the ebook. My copy has some bugs and is hard to read. Great information though.
I respectfully disagree about the ebook, at least on the iPad. I can't vouch for other devices, but the "enhanced edition" on the iPad works flawlessy and includes sound samples and videos that really add to the lessons.

Uncle Rod's boot camp is a great resource as well.
