Spray Painting a Uke??

So i've been looking at makala dolphin ukes for awhile now and am going to get one soon, but i kinda want to buy a white one as well to spray paint a different color. I know there's two diffrent types of them: the old wooden ones and the new plastic ones. Can I just spray paint plastic or should I get one of the old wooden ones if they're still available. I want to do this on a cheap ukulele, but one with at least some good sound. I can't stand the crappy sounding ukuleles. I'll be playing it as well. Thanks!

Every Makala dolphin I've tried has sounded like s**. Like a hardcase with strings on the outside. But they might have changed, what do I know.
