Hey guys, I got my uke :D I was wondering, for me strumming feels most comfortable when I down strum with my pointer fingers nail and up strum with my thumb nail. Is that okay or will some problems come from that down the road? Thanks!

Hi CJ

Strumming is a very individual thing - a friend of mine only ever uses his thumb & you wouldn't believe how well (and fast) he strums, with all different tempos!

Whatever you feel comfortable with, is fine! You may develop other strumming styles as you play different songs or play with other people

Happy Strumming

yup, no really right or wrong way to strum your uke.

if it sounds good to you, go for it.

I too strum the same way... although with a bit of a roll thrown in as the 2nd beat, up with my thumb nail as the "and" as in ( one, two-and, three and four and...).

keep uke'in',

I've seen Jake Simabukuro describe a strum just like that. You can get a lot of umph out of your instrument that way.

This is one of the few cases of... If it feels good, do it!
