OK- here you all go...who knew the video for the requirements would be harder than playing the Uke?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqwu-u8cDoc&feature=youtu.be
I asked Mr. Silly to give me a hand after take four...

GUILTY PLEASURE WEEK.
We all have the song we sing as loud as we possibly can…in the car, when we are sure no one is looking? That is what I want to hear you play this week. It’s ok, really, you are among friends.
Anyway, we like a good laugh around here, so let’s all just throw inhibition out the window and never stop believing.
80’s hair bands? God- Dave LOVES Def Lepperd
Brittany Spears?
New Kids on the Block?
The Monkees?
Bring it!
If it is in your collection, but you would be embarrassed if your friends knew- perfect!
Parameters-
Video must be a new creation
Must be single track- no overdubs
All instruments welcome, Ukulele must be central.
bonus tracks strongly encouraged
You need to tell us that your video is for the 24th season of the Ukulele at the beginning of it.

Judging-
I really don’t want to judge anyone else’s playing my first week here, so I had planned to do the hat thing like Myrna did, but…well, you know who I live with. He wanted to do Chicken Bingo and is really stuck on it- I figure we can amuse him just this once. Winner will be selected by our chickens. When that does not work as planned, we will then put names into the hat.

Since bonus points are impossible in the chicken world, we will put scratch on the names adjacent to yours if you do an ABBA song- that is my guilty pleasure.

Prizes-
First- Abba Gold music book
A GOLD rhythmic accompaniment device-
A set of Ko’olau GOLD tenor strings

Second
A set of Martin Strings
A Kazzoo

Third
A rhythmic accompaniment device (Egg shaped)
A set of Hilo Strings
Ear plugs for your significant other, for those times when you decided Loverboy is what you need to hear.

Thanks folks- time to have some fun!

What a great idea for Season 24. Love it love it love it.
Right here we go. Now then folks................no one must EVER know about this do you hear NEVER. I have a reputation to uphold. Maybe, just maybe, there is some Von Trapp blood circulating through my veins. You never can tell. Its times like this that I thank god I'm a cowardly headless uker. Thanks for taking the baton, TCW! I hope I have time to do something for this week.

This is not an entry, just a scene from a movie that immediately came to mind when I read this week's theme.

Great theme! Although the mere fact that I sing alone in the car, often and loudly, is in and of itself a guilty pleasure... Guilty, as in charge that woman with a misdemeanor... or perhaps even a felony... :)

It's going to be fun to see different players' ideas of what a guilty pleasure is (i.e. the Monkees - I love 'em as well, the first record I ever bought was the 45 of "Daydream Believer"). We've talked about doing something similar in one of my uke groups - "terrible song night" or something along those lines - but it never seems to happen.

If you've seen some of my videos you know I'm not embarrassed by much of anything... :)

I know the 'what is that you're listening to?' question well. That is usually a good sign at my house though and can mean, 'this is (finally) something I might not mind listening to on some later occasion, as long as it is not in the near future."

Well, having got home from my daughter's in-laws' Ruby Wedding celebrations this afternoon I had a look at this and saw the theme and a few ideas popped into my head so, being fairly knackered, I have spent the evening in a guilty indulgence watching You Tube videos of 80's synth pop. It's given me a few ideas but I will have to think about it.

First Welcome to full UU Membership, Melissa. I've enjoyed your contributions to hubby's videos.

Now;

@UkeyDave: Edelweiss - definitely guilty pleasure. I went and found chords for it for our uke group.

@GaryC1968: Don't think i've heard of that one before, but the subject of the song is a guilty pleasure in itself.

@ukuleledaveey; Nice one.

Now to go and think about it. Hmmmm :iwant:

What a challenge! Some very funny entries so far!
I don't know if we can post an entry this week, because we're going to go on holiday and there's a lot of work to be done till then. When Melissa mentioned Britney Spears, I thought about our take on "Toxic" two month ago. Maybe some of you haven't heard it yet. Take it as a bonus!

Singing in the car is fun - but so is singing in the shower! Here's one for those of you who secretly love Gilbert and Sullivan;)

Poor Mel, stuck at work while I get to watch what you lot are up too...great stuff herein!
@Nongdam- This is killing me! Listening while drinking coffee- all it took was "I'ma hustler baby"- clean up on aisle 7!!!Coffee everywhere. So nicely done.
@ both of the Dave's...you guys are knocking out the FANTASTIC bonus tracks for sure. 2 ABBA covers in less than 24 hours? Melissa is going to be over the moon. Kylie Mynogue? I don't even know who that is, but Mel was singing it all night. And "Over the Rainbow"- I think that is a guilty pleasure for every Uke player...and probably the song a grown the loudest about when asked to play it, but you did a great job.
@Ukelites...WHA? No "Official" entry? Sadness for sure, but this Toxic video- well, I could watch it over and over again.
Righto- thanks for all the laughs so far folks, great things happening this week- I told Melissa I would take care of this part of things, sooo-

I saw The Cure live in the late 70's. I was very disappointed. Perhaps I just saw them on a bad day.
Great job. You never fail to put a smile on my face. If ever you're in England we should go for a beer.

weird bit of sychronicity between Cloverdale and Birralee here...Jemimah's been singing 'Friday I'm In Love' for the last few days. She's just discovered it and it's big now with her and her friends. @nongdam- not an entry...the judges are convinced I am their rooster, so alas, I fear I am excluded. Yeah, I totally need some pancake for sure to get it to really show up. Don't think I will be doing that again any time soon though.
@Ukeydave- they always tend to disappoint live-I think if Robert would clean up for good (he may have at this point) they might deliver. You are on for the beer mate, and thanks for watching.
@Jon- I am totally using that quote, pretty much from now on. Nice- tell Miss Jemimah we require a video!!! Thanks for the props mate...this make-up thing is painful. Doesn't really come off either (groan)

Haaa-haaa! I can so relate. Many years ago I painted my whole body (well, almost the whole thing) green with body paint and went as the incredible hulk to a Halloween party. Danced half the night, etc., etc.

Got back to the hotel and spent hours trying to scrub it off. The green had gotten down into my pores and the next day at work I still had a feint greenish tint. Bought a brush and spent more hours in the hotel shower that night. As I recall it took about three days before the last traces were gone. That's when I learned that you're supposed to put some kind of cream on before the body paint... LOL

Well it started out as a bit of Rolf for the 24th season, everybody likes a bit of Rolf,
but the cork hat did not look right, and somehow the drums and bass and shaker
slipped in, and some twiddley bits got overlaid, and since the video of me singing was
crapperooni, creative commons had to come to the rescue, so what you get is an overblown
bonus track that you can all sing along to, cos I know you want to.

See the "conversation" at the beginning of my post. I've had it happen to me. There were some songs that were so overplayed that everyone got fed up of them and if anyone dared to start one there would be loud groans. It's less true now and they're starting to be sung again. In the right setting you get a great reaction if you sing this with everyone joining in the chorus.

I'm hoping to submit an entry this week. Tons of fun folks. Just need to find a place at this time of year that sells face paint. In the meantime, here's a bonus video of me with Toucan Sam & The Fruitloops doing our collective guilty pleasure song, You make My Dreams Come True by hall & Oates (I'm Fruitloop #9 in the back).

Thanks to Wee Ginga Yin for reminding me that we all love a bit of Rolf. This is my 4th Bonus track. I could not manage it in one take as it is IMPOSSIBLE to sing these ridiculous lyrics without laughing. Here is my pathetic attempt at "Tie me Kangaroo down sport". Gotta respect Rolf for managing to sing AND play wobble board to this wonderfully stupid song. If Rolf Harris isn't your guilty pleasure then HE SHOULD BE.
I couldn't find any Kangeroo's so I hope the horses in the background will do instead. 8-)

So, I want to respond to each post every night...but its a tough week at work and I am spent. I am going to do things this way and hope I don't ruffle feathers.
@Eugene Ukulele...Oh my goodness this is outstanding. I kinda danced around and sang along...I think Dave was surprised I knew all the words.
@Thesillydave- I sang every word of this, and added the audience participation lines..F%^k the back row! Brilliant!
@Wee- I have never heard this tune, but Dave tells me you turn it from an elementary school staple into something worth listening too- that is something with him. in any event, I liked the video a lot.
@UkeyDave- are you kidding me. 2 ABBA COVERS? You are killing it! Add to this another bonus about kangaroo bondage- dang, you are destroying this week for sure. best laugh I have had in a while is the outtakes. Keep 'em coming!
Tootler- I could watch you all day! This is not my favorite Elvis tune, but it's kinda beautiful, what with a uke and a harmonica an all. And rock around the clock- Bill Haley getting in here? You win with oldest guilty pleasure thus far- those guys were great!
@Ukuleledaddy....you had darn well better get a submission in this week or we are sending some really pissed chickens your way. We LOVE Toucan Sam and the Fruitloops around here!
@ukuleleDaveey- "Reaching out.. touching me". Don't think it is noted that this is our first Neil Diamond. Solid gold....and then you follow with a CCR mashup? Heehee- Dave hates CCR...it was a lot of fun to watch him squirm.
@Erivel....this is awesome and I am so glad you joined us (Dave said he provoked...) I mean this in the nicest way, and I am hoping you know this already- your channel is guilty pleasure central, and you are AMAZING. Welcome to the seasons
OK- hoping I got you all, thanks for an awesome day!

The reason why I started another thread to get dates organized because it was starting to get too close to the end of the week and we didn't have anything organized so I thought we could have at least three weeks in advance then people could feel they could get ready and contribute. We have some people who have stepped up to the plate which I am grateful for because this is cool that we have had this competition last for so long it's really amazing so thanks again to all those who have contributed.

We have 25th 26th and 29th organized woo hoo

I better get my comments in before a new collection comes in overnight, it being 12.40 BST now

@UkeyDave: Another Rolf. You just can't get too much of a good thing.

@ukuleledaveey: Interesting combination. CCR & Quo. Nice one that

@erivel: I had a good chuckle at this. My daughter (Then aged three) came home one evening from her cousins and she had seen the Hulk on TV and her description was "When he's pink he talks and when he's green he roars and he's called The 'credible 'ulk". She had him summed up

@nongdam: Justin Timberlake is not my favourite, but you did a good job on this.

@strumsilly: Happy Together. I was trying to remember who actually had the hit with this. I had to look it up; it was the Turtles. Nice job, though.

@UKUSOCIETY: Ballz good song and location

@peewee: I vaguely remember Chaka Khan but I don't really remember any of her songs.

@wee_ginga_yin: More Rolf - I correct what I wrote above. There are limits, you know!

@eugeneukulele: I haven't heard this song, but excellent job as usual. Excellent picking.

Should get a bit of time tomorrow to get another bonus done.

Hi folks! Great entries today (but I find myself missing all the Daves!)
@Nomgdam- Me and Justin share a Birthday so no shame in loving some Timberlake. (Dave shares his with Marie Osmond hint hint)
@Strumsilly-What a classic, nice to be rolling back to the 60s. Have to admit, I sang along.
@PeeWee-Nothing more amusing than a guy playing Chaka Khan on the ukulele. Guilty as charged - I also sang along.
@Ukisociety-I am laughing too hard to type.
@Wee- I am not familiar with Rolf, but the song sounded great. I am pretty sure it is the way you played it.
@Eugene- Loved it, Jon! Dave didn't know the song, but I did! Guilty indeed.
@UK41A- Neither me or Dave knew this song so we looked it up. You probably should be ashamed, but I am glad you are not. : )

A dance can be considered an astounding success if it leaps a generation and embarrasses your grandchildren
as well. Consider this fact... modern man tries to solve his problems by logic and reasoning whereas primitive man
tries to do it by dancing and often with more success. Rain dance, war dance, fertility dance... need I go on?

If you do leader of the pack then it is obligatory to do Terry by Twinkle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZG3Kf5QOvc) and
also Deadman's curve by Jan and Dean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Anq4wdZc2Ow). The 60's were big on motor-cycle crashes and death.

My toes still curl inwards with shame and embarrassment when I listen to Twinkle.
I had to hide under the bed so no one would see me when I added the link to Terry.
It is better to be found under your bed with your portable that to openly listen to Terry.
So in my book if anybody sung that song for the 24th season they would have climbed
to the pinnacle of shame, degradation, and guilt.

hi again all, i am having tons of fun with this weeks theme and here is my 3rd bonus entry and another first and only take, hope you enjoy !!!!

http://youtu.be/5-bt4ufS0B4

For several years, Sweet Caroline gets played during the 7th inning stretch at Fenway Park. A few years back, at an outdoor office meeting, the boss wanted to break up a long stretch of talks, so he had me bring my uke and play a couple choruses of this as our own 7th inning stretch, with my co-workers singing along.

TCW said "If it is in your collection, but you would be embarrassed if your friends knew- perfect!"

Am I not understanding what "Guilty Pleasures" mean or are my tastes the same as most people here? I feel that some of these songs are still popular. Anyways, I'm glad I'm not a judge!! :p

TCK

A definite part of the fun is watching what some people can bring themselves to play, and what we would all call "guilty"...which is not ever going to be collective. For me, pretty much anything that has ever been given a Grammy is guilty, so I figure that is how I differ from the rest of the music buying public. Fairly certain we all have wildly different tastes...
Precisely why the judges are chickens :)

Of course, in my mind, the biggest Guilty Pleasure of all has not been done yet. There is one song I know EVERYBODY belts out in the car. There is just no fighting it. One can hope it gets done.

I suppose someone had to take up the challenge. Definitely very brave of you to do a disaster song. Folk songs are littered with deaths but somehow it doesn't quite seem the same.

Definitely cool in 1962. I remember it from then as I was in my teens.

Here's my Guilty Pleasure entry:

Being from the UK I associate this song more with Herman's Hermits than the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter did have a fine voice and the way she went was very sad, but I was never really keen on their style of music.

Dave, you just don't know what you did with that. I've just been on a You Tube tour of the early 60s, very much my teenage years, and come up with a load of possibilities. In the meantime, I remembered I did this some time ago.

http://youtu.be/lcFTVUqKfM0

There was a time when I had almost every Roy Orbison single. They've long since got lost but I bought a CD a while back of his singles so I could get them back again. He was a great singer. I didn't think I quite had it in me to manage It's Over so you'll just have to make do with Blue Bayou.

That's a beaut Tootler! Nicely done. Being a kid of the 70's, I suppose I can't help but hear Linda Rondstadt do it.
60's deal got stuck in my head too- just wish I had had enough brains to include Bluesville (for uke content- nod if you get it gang).
In any event- Today's radio show was 60's Garage Rock (http://dlaurice.podomatic.com/entry/2012-08-02T13_49_44-07_00), a lot of fun to put together given where I hope we are heading here- not everyone's cuppa, but certainly some of the wackiest music I have.

Hello friends! Thank you for another amazing day of guilty pleasures.
@PeeWee- The Shangri-las! Beautiful! I think I heard TCK singing along - way better choice than the Supremes
@Wee - There is absolutely no shame in that dance! Keep it up, I am enjoying it.
@Tootler- I love me some Roger Miller! And blue Bayou, too? Brilliant.
@Ukulele Daddy- Lovely tune by the very guilty Tony Orlando and Dawn - as you know also a guilty pleasure of mine : )
@UkeyDave- I know you were provoked, but guilty again! Thank you for sharing your many guilty pleasures so far
@J-Peg- First appearance of Katy Perry but definitely appropriate here. Lovely.
@TCK - If I had not seen you and your mother dancing around the living room to this song, I may not understand the depth of your guiltiness
@Myrna - You make Karen Carpenter somehow less guilty - beautiful.
@Eugene Ukulele- Happy Days! I am somewhat embarrassed to admit I loved watching this show (but not really) Thanks for the reminder!
@Rook - Very artsy with the side profile! TCK says he hasn't seen you on the seasons before (I would not know as it is my first week on the Underground) so welcome aboard! Love the John Denver- guilty indeed.

Thank you all again for your entries, it has been a great end to my day throughout the week. Just three days left - hold on to the feeling folks! Until tomorrow...

It is dancing Mr Spock but not as we know it. A dance I did a few years ago to embarrass my children

This may sound shallow, but I love you, man. This is the most amazing dance I've ever seen. Honestly.

Guilty pleasures?????

Last night at the folk club I decided on the spur of the moment to sing King of the Road and wasn't sure how it would go down. I needn't of worried. Of course, most people knew it so they sang along. There was a certain amount of banter between verses as I tried to keep them to my phrasing, all good natured, so it went off really well and everyone had big smiles all over their faces at the end. One of those magic moments when everything goes right.

Nothing quite like a shared guilty pleasure

Now to go and cut the grass while it isn't raining - a rarity this summer over here. Then I can do the intro video for the 25th season.

@thesillydave- my goodness man, that is over the top. Pretty much fell off the couch. Beautiful.
@UncleElvis- so glad you made it! Love the audience participation and your choice of songs to sing entirely in public, complete with amplification. Gorgeous.
@UkeyDave- man, you have a new little slice of joy for us daily don't ya? Be careful bringing up Miss Newton John around here...we might get our resident Koala worked all into a tizzy remembering his teenage crush on her ;) Great old tune there for sure- the only one I can play on steel guitar.
@Erivel- You are certainly makin' us happy with this-and you got the early version? AWESOME! A long time ago a monitor replaced TV...but man this takes me back to my youth.
@Ukuleledaddy- shirk away! Neil...had to be done, so great. Also loved the shirt- little more relaxed in the buttoning procedures...killing it!

This is something else I recorded this week. I wasn't really thinking of it as a Guilty Pleasure, but I guess the Beach Boys fall into a middle ground. I think songs like this one and "Good Vibrations" and "Feel Flows" are objectively great. But then there are also ones like "Kokomo" and "Little Deuce Coupe" that would have to be considered Guilty Pleasures. And "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena"? Fuhgeddaboudit.

Anyway, I did a bonus video that fits the theme better, but it will take me a while to get it uploaded to YouTube.

I really had to get our very own Cliff Richard in somewhere. I was a big fan in my school days. This song dates from 1961 when he was beginning to soften his image to what it later became and away from the rocker where he started out.

I didn't have time to work out the opening guitar riff, so I just sort of fudged it on the kazoo. I meant to do it again half way through but forgot.

Definitely a guilty pleasure these days. It's definitely uncool to admit to liking Cliff.

Tootler- I believe you saw about 14 of the darn things. Now you are in for it, because I am no gentleman ;)

Oh dear!!!

Death by piano accordion. Anything but that. :wallbash:

Did you hear about the guy who left his accordion in the back of his car and forgot to lock the car. When he got back to his car there were two more in there.

boom! boom! :nana:

All right, this is more of a guilty pleasure than the Beach Boys song. This is a single by the German band Lake that I liked a lot when I was in high school in the mid-'70s. The song hasn't aged that well, but then neither have I. I got the clock sound off of Soundjay.com and kept copying and pasting it in Audacity till I had about 4 minutes worth.

NIce job - one of my favorite John Aspen songs! I was going to do this a few seasons back but allergies made it pretty bad so I didn't get it recorded.

Awesome, E. Simply awesome!

So, I'm at my gig and someone mentions videoing and I go "OH! I forgot to record my song for the Seasons contest!", so I whipped out my Bloggie, babbled for a second, then handed it off to a friend.
And then this happened.

Totally awesome! That's a great version. It fits your voice. I love the shirt too. My wife Lisa really liked it too. She's a Neil fan. Keep rockin' man.

Can't believe I got two videos in this week. Great theme. Here's Neil Diamond (LOVE him).

I understand the guilty pleasure aspect but this is a great song with nothing to be ashamed of. Mike Nesmith wrote this and he does what I feel is a much better version.

Great job, you do it justice.
